Hahahah I have a picture of my dad, holding a 1lb gopher up with a huge grin on his face.  This Caddyshack sized beast was devouring his backyard, rototillering it up in the process, and he tried all the "Standard" methods, traps, poison, water, flares, smoke bombs (Being a landscape gardner all his life he knew how to deal with them) but this beast was different.  It foiled all the traps he set, snorted the poisons, smoked the flares, and taunted him for more.
That fat bastard couldn't out run a .22!  Dad went all sniper on it's butt and baited it with some lettuce and when it stuck it's puss out to grab a free snack "pop" with the .22 CB with his 10/22.loaded single shot.  That's all she wrote for the underground reign of that subterranean devil!

Before I was old enough to know the difference, I always referred to my dad's 22 as the "gopher gun".

Go to your Ace hardware store and find one of the rubber adapters that connect to your automobile's exhaust and to a garden hose.  Run the other end of the hose down an open gopher hole, pack some dirt around the hose to seal off the hole, start the vehicle and let it idle for around 30 minutes.  They can't escape the carbon monoxide gas, and it will kill all the gophers in the tunnel.  I've been using one of these things for several years with great success after having tried and given up on the conventional traps and foggers.

I like that idea!  I wonder how diesel exhaust would do? Hum ... the 3" dia tubing to run the exhaust back will probably be expensive for the run I'll need! :smt044

Before I opened this thread I thought it was about Gopher Rockfish.

Try a low-yield thermonuclear device. You might be able to pick up one of the upcoming Iranian test bombs at a reasonable cost.... :smt002
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Had em bad when we lived in Modesto.  We had good results running water hoses into the holes, plus those old gnarly pincher traps.  Use multiple hoses into multiple holes and they will pop up.

I have had the best luck with the gopher traps. A lot of work but usually they are the most effective. After each kill we boil them in water to help remove scents.

Same as with Brian, the snap traps work the best. Two per hole, expose the tunnel, place one trap in each direction, then wait ..
