Friday was brutal, wind was already blowing at 6am when I launched stayed in the cove until Chuck arrived, then worked our way out toward the point. Wind was onshore at this point 10-15 knots, with a 7-10' swell so decided not to venture out of the cove around the point. I hoooked up with a nice brown and Chuck landed a cab. Kelp is the thickest I have seen in 3 years! Lots of furbags. Then the wind decided to switch and blow offshore and increase to about 18-22 knots. Never had my feet hanging over the side in kelp, rutter down and still getting blown backwards! It was truly brutal paddling back in. We tried all over the cove but it was too much so had to quit. By the time we got to the hotel winds were up to 25-30 knots. We went to do some surf perchin off Res. rd but when we felt the wind and saw a hang glider guy launching off the dune, we said nah.

Thought Sat, was going to be a bust but we traveled all this way so stuck it out overnight. Next morning was a light breeze, got to the cove and calm. Launched quickly and got out past the point for a few drifts. After two underlings Chuck finally landed a 27 incher and I pulled out a 26' but after icing down came to 25.5, so remember that! Put a couple more rocks on the stringer and called it a day.

FYI: We also talked with Fish & Game and they say beach is public access by law so gate not suppose to charge if your are only accessing the public beach, confirmed this with a local employee, and said they won't refund once you've paid.  :smt006

Chuck's a big guy so yes the cab in photo is legal!

Glad you still catch some fish on the windy day like that.  Thanks for the report and pictures Rob.

Thanks for the report and info on gate. I was told no charge 30 min before sunrise and 30 min after sunset, no gate fee. Last time down there I was 45 min before sunrise and was told they charge no matter, will try that DFG ocean access challenge next time. I think we need to get this straight with Pebble beach mngt.

thanks....aka-kimo
