If you could only have one rock fish set-up (artificial) what would it be?
Line test?
weight?
color?

I am a total rock fish newby. I went once last year and I am Hooked, to put it mildly. I dont make it to the coast much so I would love to improve my chances.

P.S Is Fort Ross still open for fishing. The regs look like it might be closed but I cant tell.

Thanx for your input in advance! :smt003

Yes Fox I did get a lot from that thread. I am ignorant when it comes to the ocean.

As an avid bass fishermen (fresh water) I am very familyar with this question. For me it would be the Drop_Shot.

What I want to Know is, what is your Drop-Shot for the ocean?
I dont want to know tips, I want to Know the Cliche " If you were on a desert Island "and only had one rig.

For me it would be a 6oz diamond jig in either chrome or white/glow. I use Yozuri hybrid 30lb which is 30lb diameter but rated for 40lb strength. White or rootbeer scampi with 6oz heads would be 2nd. Drop to 4oz for both if fishing shallow with slower drifts. Used to use alot of shrimp flies but you end up catching alot of smaller fish if you do. Good to have for backup though when nothing else is working. jim

O.K. all you braid lovers chime in now. lol.  :smt002

Thanks for the info. I went one time last year, twords the end of season. It was a spur of the moment thing. The only gear that we had was what we used for lmb at Lake Cleone in Fort Brag.
My wife caught 6 Blaks, 1 Verm,1 Blue and an underling. Al she had was 3/4 jig head with a tube on 10lb line.
I did not get a bite, but it was like hiting the crack pipe just being out there.

I feal very under powerd, 4oz with 30lb line, holly crap thats the real deal.

Sledge, It wouold be awsome if I could tag along on a trip :smt007 I will definatly be p.m.ing you.

And I'll tell ya the best day i ever had yak fishing was with an ultralight uglystick using 10lb test...was catching some huge reds, coppers, but the big lings got away most hammered lure was that black on top/white shad u pickup @ wallymart...if u see um by them all up, guaranteed RED, had 1 at GS4 first drop BAMB 18" red, second drop busted it off on a fish...but DAMN it was like u had a 30# springer on everytime.......

I'm off work for the nxt two mths so I'm going to be doing a lot of fishing...let me know...this weekend @ albion going to fish with Dr Habanaro "Jimbo" fri-mon and were going to fish different areas...your welcome to hookup...ch 69... :smt002
