I have a question about the areas off-limits to fishing.
What are the reserve limits south of Point Lobos? There are some really nice beaches I would like to launch from but I am not sure if they are within or outside the reserve. This one for instance:

I have the same question regarding Pt Lobo. I was heard there is no takes from Pt Lobo reserve. Not clear about the boundary.

In fact the particular area I was looking at is:

I had made a mistake with the link above. On this picture, you can clearly see a really nice beach with wide-open access to great fishing grounds. It might be off-limits unfortunately, I am just wondering.

Here's a really good link with GIS data and maps for those not so GIS savvy of the various California Marine Protected Areas.

First of all, it's important to remember that for the most part, only the "State Marine Reserves" restrict recreational fishing.  For example, Fort Ross is listed here and is a "State Marine Conservation Area" so fishing is allowed.

From your question above, I zoomed out a bit to see exactly where you were referring to.

A look at the Pt. Lobos Marine Reserve Map, shows that your little dream beach is indeed off limits to recreational fishing.

Not that anyone else cares, but my office at work faces Horseshoe Cove which would be a great launch site.  Here's a map

Unfortunately, Horseshoe Cove is part of the Bodega Marine Reserve

and is even off limits to just launching my kayak.

Brian,
Thanks for all the info. Man you are lucky to have an office overlooking such beautiful areas! :smt002

and you don't have to watch people going out to go fishing while you are working!
that might be hard to take, so maybe it's good that horseshoe cove is offlimits,
at least for you.
