My brother-in-law said the shads are running at freeport so I had to check it out.  decided not to bring the yak this time because the weather was suppose to be iffy.  It was pretty windy in the morning but settled around 10:30am but it was a no show for the shads except this one.  They should be trickling in this week and next.  fun to catch with light gear :smt003
Got treated to a sashimi buffet in elk grove called Fuji so the day was not a total loss.

If that is a male, the much bigger females should be arriving soon. Lots of fun on light tackle. Most people catch and release, but I've had them cooked up before. Very bony.

WTG on the shad Allan. The sashimi made my mouth water a little bit but I'm OK
now. :smt005 :smt005

I figure if the fish are not biting, plan B is to start biting fish instead.  Thanks to my pastor's cousin who was kind enough to feed two discourage and hungry fishermens. :smt003

It sure seems late this year.

Did you check the water temperature?

We still haven't had a 90 degree day this year yet (must be global warming), and I never even scout for shad until the Cottonwood trees blow and we get 3 days of 90+ air temps.
