Hello!

Anyone ever tried kayaking fishing Lake Solano?   I have attempted to fish Lake Solano several times to zero and I mean ZERO success not even a bite this season.  I heard they quit stocking it so that may have something to do with it, but I just can't help to think that I am missing something!  I know that trout is the primary species in the Lake but with all the reeds and cover I just can't believe there isn't bass!?!?!  I know the water temp is a little colder than normal due to the release from the bottom of Monticello, but the lake has many shallow points that seems like would be ideal and most warm up very fast.

Any help would be appreciated!  If you want to keep it tight lipped PM me.  Otherwise, I will be back at it once my new FF gets installed.  I will find those little buggers!  I am finding it hard to keep going to Lake Skunkalano when I can go to Berryessa and catch fish all day, but Momma didn't raise no quitter!

There're big LMB there.  Did you use live bait?

No I used plastic worms / brush hogs both Texas rigged and wacky rigged (worms) to no avail.  I have been trying to stay away from livebait, but that may be the way to go?

I'm a live bait believer!  :smt003

You can catch them with lure and plastic worms too.  I just have better luck with night crawlers.  Check out this old post:

There are some bass in lake solano but not a ton. Since they stopped stocking trout I don't think you will find as many there as previously. there are likely still some around but the ones left will probably skittish.

If you wan to try live bait double check your regs before you do. I don't remember if it is affected by the same regs as putah creek.

Berry is only another 20-25 minutes or so past there and is much better fishing.

Yeah, I have looked at the regs, bait is still ok in Lake Solano.   Past the fork in either arm on the NW side of the lake the water becomes "moving" and follows the new guidance: no bait, barbless and artificial only.  I agree on the Berryessa being just a few minutes more comment, but I always like to mix it up.  Catching a fish post-no stock at Lake Solano has sort of become my White Buffalo.

I live within 15 minutes of Lake Solano, and wouldn't give it the time of day anymore.

Putah Creek is infested by New Zealand Mud Snails (NZMS) and even mentioning your kayak has been in that body of water will get you red tagged at boat inspection lakes, clean and dry or not.

They used to plant rainbows and brown trout, bass and catfish, but since they stopped the lake fishery has declined. There are some big bass there, they EAT TROUT (hint, hint), but as others have posted above, it is much better in Berryessa and other nearby spots. Berryessa should be ON FIRE this weekend, steady warming weather, sunny, no wind, in the high 70's or low to mid 80's...it doesn't get better. Lake Hennesey in Napa hills is close by and better also.

I second the mud snail warning. Not good!! be sure to dry out your boat completley, maybe even bleach it. They are a big problem! I've seen pics of browns coming out of there too.
