Got to the location about 8:00am. There were about 4 yaks on the beach, and 2 were already paddling out.

Met up with BigWaveDave and we teamed up for the carry down the hill. Poison oak everywhere.

Launched at high tide to ankle biter waves.

Fired up the FF, and noticed the water temp was about 49 degrees, not a good sign.

Dave and I worked the area hard for 3.5 hrs and we both caught a couple. I hooked a beautiful blue underling that was fiesty...

I somehow posted the pics and then got cut off.

Yeah, it does match my yak color... :smt003

When Dave and I decided we had enough, the tide was low, and this particular beach was pounding with 5/set waves with about a 20 second dwell. The wind had picked up big time and the swells were 3-5 feet pushing hard south. We made our way to the very north end of the beach, and patiently waited for our window. We both landed safe, but had to carry the yaks over the submerged, mossy rocks that reared their ugly heads at low tide.

Dave, I've got your game clip, blue tape and your book. That means we need to fish next weekend so I can give the stuff to you.

Rich

Good try Rich and thanks for the report even though it wasnt prime fishing. Water clarity looked good though. I gotta get down there and fish with you guys.

What a great day to be on the water, the sun was out and the birds were a chirpping.

Decided to surf a little wave into the beach, it was fun until I ground the hull over two rocks and then high sided on the third.  I had a couple of black and yellows in the tankwell covered with a tater sack. After I got to my feet I see one of them swimming off, so I  scooped him up and put him back. The other one nowhere in sight, who was caught at least an hour ago, must have swam off. Amazing how tough some of those rockfish are.

Rich, I tell your wife it is real important that I get that roll of masking tape back next weekend. :smt002

I'm sorry I missed you guys - I had a bit of a catastrophe that morning.  All is well, and I'm going to try to head out this week.  Cold water is tough...

Like the pic - next time I'll help you past the poison oak.

Nice coloring on that ling. I wonder what makes their color different. Could it be
because of their diet perhaps?
