James wanted to ride his bicycle, I wanted to fish. So he rode and I walked over to Sandy point, where after about 20 minutes of fishing, I finally connected with a two-ish pound bass on a wacky senko-like.

After this, it was off to the playground, so he could get his swing on.

Started getting late, so we started the trip back. I decided to hit the not so secret spot for a couple casts, just in case there were some cruisers in the shallows after the recent cold weather.

Sure enough, saw an utter pig swimming away, after I'd missed seeing her there at first and walked up to the bank, thinking there were no fish in close.

Thing is though, she returns a couple minutes later, and inhales the faux senko on the second cast.

After I'd called a pound plus Redear that James caught "A toad", James is now calling all big ones "Toadfish". Yep, daddy caught a toadfish this time :)

Headed right home after this, after all, how could things get any better?

Scott

Oh, and while I've pretty much given up on using the kayak in LOP as not being family friendly, I've still not gone over to the evil powerboat side. We've just been using the cataraft, set up for lake fishing. Though it wasn't much fun rowing me, James, his buddy Jamie and Jamie's 6'6" 300 lb dad around the lake...

John,

3 Pounds? That hurts man... :)  This is a pic of the second fish, not the first fish.

I didn't grab a scale or tape when we left the house, but did get a measurement against the fishing rod. When I get back in the US, I'll be able to verify my SWAG that it was in the 22-23" range. So it would be well over 5 lbs, and possibly 7. Definitely in the top three that I've pulled out of LOP.

wilderneshunter - are you in up in LWW? I too am still looking for my 10 pounder.

Nice report - I think JTF misread it but he acknowledged the big bass.  It looks like it goes 7 or more to me.

Way to get some fishing in during Dad Duty.   :smt001

Hey, I love the swingset shot as much as anything else...very cool pic.

LOP, I'm guessing, is the local neighborhood pond. Backyard bass!
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.
