Waiting for the Scotty Laketroller to get here, but you get the idea. I am hoping I will have enough clearance around my knee but we will see. If not I will be listing the Triple Scotty Mount, rod holder and downrigger in the classifieds.

ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

I like the rod in front of me because I hate having to turn around to watch the rods.

Two potential issues:

a) it will interfere with your paddle stroke and
b) it might cause considerable torque to that area.

Just things to think about.

If I get your idea, I think you should reverse it, like in this post: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,5997.0.html

If you use your right hand scotty mount for the DR, and then reverse your rod holder to point at the DR you get the butt of the rod out of the way, the handle of your reel is now facing you, and I think you can get an angle that would be clear of your stroke.

Good luck!

It should be out of my way of paddling, especially if I do the cross idea. We will see if the stupid downrigger ever gets here. Been 3 weeks since I purchased it.  :smt013

This was totally out of the way of both my knees and my paddle stroke.
It was a bit of a stretch deploying it but very doable.
You don't want your knees in the way while you are raising or lowering it.
Remember the cable will not be straight down either while you are paddling.
You gotta keep the angle of your downrigger line out of the way of your stroke.
