I was surprised to come across the following site about Monterey shark attacks.  Records show monterey bay has a string of shark attacks too, right at the most popular dive spots.   But people seem to dive in Monterey bay beaches as if there are no sharks...

:smt044 that was the first thing I thought of!
I think you've created a new pop fishing phrase for the summer of 2010 Porky.

Monterey bay up to SF Bay & out to the Farallons is the classic "triangle"

DaveW was correct about the timing. Right now is probably one of the best dive times.

Just step away from the ocean bluestar! It sounds like you have a lot of fears about entering the ocean and I believe it would be best to just not enter the water. Believe me there are sharks in the water and they will look for those who fear them the most. Do you analyze everything so much such as driving on certain highways? To be honest there is probably more danger in driving to the dive spot then getting attacked by a shark.  I understand your fears but just deal with it and dive in areas wear you'll feel safe( lake Tahoe is good). No more shark talk. It is starting to scare me :smt103

i think most people diving in the MB know that sharks are out there. i have been with guys diving and all of the sudden we were all back on our kayaks because one guy had a close encounter which was very credible. we moved and hopped back in.

sightings are not super rare out there either but i guess its a risk i accept when i enter a world that is not really my own.

My son and I dive Monterey on A reg basis! I am not going to let them scare me! I live in A very dangerous city and if I let fear get the best of me I wouldn't come out of my house! Be aware they are there. We swam with A shark around four foot long in Stillwater on Sat for about a half hour. It wasn't A leopard and I'm not sure what kind it was!

It was actually around three foot now that I think of it! Everything looks bigger under water! :smt004

Don't forget about land sharks, too.  They're usually around on Saturday Night.  You're never safe...anywhere.

Are those two chix checking out each other's ta-ta's while tigger's checking out their derrieres?  :smt007

Thanx Porky!

Bluestar, I don't dive down in Monterey but I was aware of the fatalities that occurred there.
It's a calculated risk.....like everything else worth experiencing in life.
If you want to be a part of the under water world you will take that risk. Beats sofa 'surfing' anyday.

I read it in Surfer.  Story was about the lesser antilles, kelly slater and crew paid a fisherman to drop them off at an offshore break.  On their way out one of the guys asks the fisherman if there's sharks there and he made them taste the water then gave them the salt line.

Bluestar, we are all aware of them. 7 attacks is not alot considering the crazy high number of divers that get in the water there. My guess is that there is alot more sharks that have seen humans than there are humans that have seen sharks.

I think its time to go for a swim my man, alot of your questions will be answered.
