Since my kayak transport car is broken down and I missed out on the Berryessa trip Friday, my cousin and I decided to hit up New Melones at sunrise to search for bass, trout and kokes.

We got on the water right at 7 am and trolled to the spillway in huge white caps, running one line toplined and the other line down 22' on the rigger. I hooked up with a fiesty 18" colorful trout. When we cleaned her she was packed full of eggs. She would have went back if I known that.

We worked nearly half of the lake from the dam all the way to Angels Creek. The Angels Creek cove didn't produce one fish for us. Most of our fish came from my secret spot I frequent in the yak a lot. We caught over 20 bass combined and was off the lake at 4pm.

Not satisfied with the results we hauled but to the delta and got on the water at 7pm. Wind was choppy but nicer than Melones. We trolled a lot and threw some hard baits. Lots of shakers. Finally started getting into the bigger fish around 10:30 pm and got a fish just over 18" and one over 21". Both went home with us for the bbq. We were off the water at 11:45 and I pulled into my driveway at 1:45 am.

Had to get up at 5 am for an Autism Conference in Modesto. Was well worth it for the fun fishing.

I should add that we had the trout in the cooler on the delta and people asked how we did and hold the trout up and said got this one on a Senko. Got some puzzled looks  :smt005

Nice report Jeff.  I second the hardcore statement!

Where are those river pics from?  Somewhere near Melones I'm guessing.

We unknowingly illegally hiked up to the top of Melones Dam and looked down. We got down and in the middle of the dam was a huge sign that said Government Property no trespassing, felony prosecution.

Definitely wouldnt have gone up there seeing that. They need to put more than one sign up in the middle of the dam.
