Part 1.

Covert monitoring of the NCKA chatroom had revealed an upcoming rendezvous that seemed implausible at best & very suspicious at the least. The Great Dr.Polay had requested the presense of the Honorable Ambassador Davide for an afternoon of polo & tea in the confines of his gated villa in the Bohemian Forest.
Equines & Earl Grey? This made no sense. It must be secret code words. Overcome with curiousity I traveled along the edges of the great river piloting my Kronreif'Trunkenpolz'Mattighofen until I grew close & then dismounted to continue on foot. My timing could not have been more perfect for as I approached the compound I could see Ambassador Davide pulling into the drive & Dr.Polay emerging to greet him. And as I trained my parabolic mic towards them from the cover of the thick brush.....a conversation began.

Part 2.

Although I shared a common goal as these two great men my methods of communication & indeed my own weak mind precluded myself from joining into the inner circle of the resistance. Disallowed.....but compelled to help nonetheless I listened intently as they exchanged pleasantries but then silently climbed the steps to enter. I quickly fired off the blowgun spycamdart penetrating the good ambassador's lapel & was relieved. I had "an in", eyes & ears, to whatever would follow.
They stepped into a high speed elevator & in seconds were 30 levels below the surface. As the doors opened I could see a labyrinth of tunnels carved into rock stretching into the distance. Kynar pipes & steel conduits ran along overhead as they walked forward into a great room. This was Dr.Polay's Laboratory! For security reasons I will not describe or otherwise reveal any of the other items witnessed within. Only the one which, at the time, gave me hope renewed.
"Davide,"said Dr.Polay,"I know things have been going well in the fight of late.....but I believe I may have discovered a device which might pacify our enemies or at least buy us some more time to better organize & defend. It could also provide some contingency for the future of our sport. A fallback plan for the worst case scenario if you will. I call it the v.a.c.c."

Question - who owns this material saltydog or NCKA? Just wondering.
I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Part 3.

On the table before them lay what looked like an ordinary plastic baitfish body. But looking closer near the head there was a tiny modular plug."Where's the hook?"said the Ambassador."There isn't one."replied Dr.Polay. As he began to describe how the device worked I felt as if I had somehow fallen thru the rabbit hole. This was truly a fantastic breakthrough.
Instead of a hook this device used a chemical reaction to rapidly inflate the lure in the mouth of a fish either automatically via tiny onboard sensors or manually from the reel control interface. The auto trigger was a combination of the pre-determined level of biting & shaking force detected by those sensors. The shape of the inflated device was similiar to a large bagel with a hole in the middle to allow some water to continue to pass thru the fishes gills while lodged in place. Once hooked captured the angler could choose to deflate the device while the fish was still at depth to prevent barotrauma & the un-necessary capture of under-sized fish if he felt insufficient weight at the end of the line.
In addition the device was loaded with a full array of fish attracting features such as selectable body color via different onboard l.e.d. lights, an embedded e-chip, & a refillable gel scent compartment. In the event of a fatal bottom snag the device could be imploded from the surface control, the tiny modular plug would remain intact at the end of the line, & then be reeled back up to plug in another v.a.c.c."This is a wonderful creation Dr.Polay!"exclaimed the Ambassador."We could catch better fish & at the same time be more humane."
At the time I felt the same as the good Ambassador, and as I sped home along the great river so to did my mind race & my heart soar with the possibilities of this new miracle. But how could I, Dr.Polay, or any other among our humble kayak fisherfolk know the future.....& the evil that our enemies & their willing allys could be capable of?

Please allow me to take you to the dive spot discontinued. Where the saltwater molecules may restore the equilibrium in your quietly disturbed mind. Where indeed your gill rakers will provide sustenance and life. For you are no longer amongest the living. Your mind has decended inbto a vast pit of senile comprehension of fact. :smt006 :smt044 :smt044

Part 4. a few years later.

In the years following the release of Dr.Polay's miracle invention one might have thought that the forces behind the MLPA & the NOP would relax their efforts. We were so naive back then. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Emboldened by the passivity of the average angler's reactions to their attacks, & witnessing the acceptance & huge sales of the v.a.c.c. & other new humane tackle technology, our enemies began to step up their creeping incrementalism exponentially.
In time the only "public" capturing of aquatic life of any kind was reserved for the very wealthy, well connected, "Pro's" of BassCar.Inc & their sickening cadre of sycophantic bass-oholics. These were the only anglers that joined with and stuck by the enemies of fishing until the bitter end. In trade some of them retained limited non-revocable rights to participate in the capture festivites. I believe it was their already established views re:C&R combined with equal measures of self-entitlement, intolerance, & judgemental attitudes that led them down that dark path. But the time for pity is gone. Now all is lost. "Fishing", in the real world, is an impossibility.
I remember a time in my distant memory when a single angler publicly expressed his indignation over another angler's legal take of two fish. An apoligy was given but.....it's amazing how such seeds of thought.....blown by the digital wind.....can spread through our world.....incubate, proliferate, & ultimately dominate the psyche of enough men. The tide is running out now.....so at least.....I can watch it go.
                                                                                                                                                                                 the end
