Launched at 4 pm out at sunset, saw one bass working the shallows, but could not interest any of them.  Worked plastic worm with no weight, jig with grub, crank bait.  Looked real fishy, not no love!   Lot's of greibes, cormorants, and at suset thousands of swallows.

Beautiful lake!  Thanks for the report and pictures Jim.  BTW, I think you mean to post this report in the "Fishing Reports" forum not "Fish Talk" right?  :smt003

I took my kayak there several years ago just to paddle and the sign there said no kayaks. I checked some web sites just now and found this one:

http://www.fishsniffer.com/dbacher/070302hennessey.html

where I read this:

Boating Regulations: The daily boat launching fee is $4.00 per watercraft. Outboard motors of 10 horsepower maximum are allowed. Sailboats, catamarans and rubber rafts, with a minimum of 8 feet in length and a maximum of 18 feet, are allowed. Windsurfers, sailboats without cockpits, water skis, kayaks and other "similar crafts" are not permitted on Hennessey at any time. No swimming, wading, or water contact sports are allowed. Boats shall be allowed on the lake one hour before sunrise and shall be removed from the lake by one hour after sunset of each day.

It's dated 2007, but has that changed?

I called the city of Napa water works who owns the lake and asked about launching a kayak there and also asked about the $1 fishing fee and they said I could pay for both right there at the dock.   I live ten minutes from the lake and see kayaks on it all of the time.  maybe it is a way to keep you out of county folks away!

apparently they used to stock rainbows but I believe they stopped a few years ago because of the poor red legged frog or something?  I have never had much luck there but it is close to home and a beautiful place to be.  I normally make the trip up to Berryessa but the algea bloom last time made it impossible there.

I launched there once from the shore and the guy said we need to launch at the ramp only. Didn't say we couldn't be on the lake tho. I know they frown on floattubes there.

I fished there from shore several times and had pretty good luck on the east side of the lake using just salmon eggs.
I've wanted to take the yak there but didn't know it was o.k. to do so. Apparently you can.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Anywhere that allows boats but not kayaks is really whacked...

Great pics.   :smt001
