I've been experimenting with Spook hook configs for bay stripers. The blue one has a flashtail, middle treble, and front BB-shot. It went 1 for 3 in hookups recently. The white one has the end hooks with two barbs bent in (ala Gene Kira's "Baja Catch"), and a middle BB-shot. It went 1 for 7. It also didn't seem to walk as well, but maybe I overdid the red feather tail.

I think those red hooks were Gama's, and they are a bit light, the blue hookup straightened out the barb. I'm going to try Owner's next. OTOH, the real fun is the blowup not the hookup :-)

What's the BB shot for? Is it to balance the lure or make a clicking sound (when it's jerked of course)?

Weight is part of the reason for the BB's, but more the idea of having some drag in the water to help it walk. I can't claim that it works, I've tried clipping and adding shot, it doesn't make a huge difference. I think having it nose-up when it sits in the water helps (don't overdo it tho).
