I gave it a go today down at the Cove.  Got the family set up for boogieboarding - there were tons of people hanging out down in the Cove for the afternoon.  I got in 3 miles of trolling in a pretty good swell, but the wind was down and it was nice out.  Word was a few fish were caught today, but no action while I was on the water from 3 to 5:30.  I paddled through mud from the moorings out a few hundred yards before starting to troll green water with a few feet of viz.  I got to nice clear water and trolled at 50 pulls.  Marked some potential bait on the finder (fixed it last night and today!) mostly inside and not out in the clear water.  Went from the Bell all the way to the Whistle and back with no other boats around.  Very quiet, but it was so awesome to be back on the water with an opportunity to hook a salmon.  I can't wait to get back out there.   :smt001

I got some pretty good footage of trolling in the swells, but no stills OTW today.  We BBQ'd some dogs on the beach below The Tides Inn for dinner before hitting the road for home.

Eric,

You definately have your priorities in the right order.

1) Family
2). Trips with the family to the beach.
3). Paddling/fishing, abbing.
4). Working a job you love.

Thanks for all of it!

Rich

Nice family outing.

I trolled out of psl and got a skunk as well trolled 15 miles from 9 to 3 pulls deep varied but most were deep all the fish caught down this way(3) have been caught around 150ft of water and 100 pulls down. So we will see some weird colored water was kinda cool brown then a line and turned green the another line and turned blue and warmed 3 degrees.

Trolled a 1lb ball with a watermelon apex behind a 8 inch blue flasher no luck. Also tried trolling a purple haze apex no luck on that one either thow.

Thanks, Guys!  When I wrote the other day that I needed to figure out how to "ditch" the family to go fishing it was definitely tongue-in-cheek.  I can't have fun unless I know I've done my part to set them up to have fun as well.  That's why I try to ditch WORK and go fishing while the fam's in school!   :smt003

My priorities for family, work, AND fishing shape my Madness activities.  To fully understand how enticing Shelter Cove is to me and why I'd speed down there, incurring 3+ hours of driving for little windows of opportunity, review this post from 9/11/06:

Eric,

ripping report. Collin(sp?)looks happier than a pig in a S_ _ T house with that ice cream cookie sandwich, if thats what it is. I'm quitting my job today and moving to Shelter Cove forthwith, to hell with the world. Keep checking the forecast looking for that window. Stay in touch,

SRJ

I love Shelter Cove.  Something about that place that captured my heart.  Thank you for sharing your family outing and pictures with us.  I know you'll catch a Salmon there before the GS4.  Looking forward to see your video clip Eric.

Eric -

Nice report and good try. The kids are getting big. Will have to let them run around with Molly at GS4, well as long as they don't mind jumpin and lickin.  :smt005
