Hooked up with Bink at 6:45 coffee in hand loaded his kayak and got on the road. Of course we drive past OP and the water looks like glass, figures!   Paid the $10 at the marina to launch and park. Once we get there an unload I realize that i left a milk crate sitting outside my apartment (drats!) Bink is gracious enough to loan me a lure and some plastics.  On the water around 8;30 ish.  Wind was blowing as predicted in the 8+ MPH range (I think slightly faster), tide was pushing upstream along with the winds.  My Hobbie, is getting pushed all over, actually I really didn't need to paddle much as I was moving pretty fast without much effort.

We get separated by a few hundred yards and when I work my way back over to Bink he already caught and released a monster on steroids (I will let him tell his tale with the mythological beast that evades.  We work the tules as much as possible, we see one other NCKA kayaker (X Squid).  My shallow Hobbie is getting blown all over.  I don't get a hit but do see a lot of wild life.  One Sea Lion, I muskrat (or something appearing to be one) a couple of hundred swallows dive bombing on insects (go Swallows), ducks, cormorants, a Pair of Great Blue Herons.

We break for lunch, thanks Bink for the Chicken & Bacon sandwich it filled the void!

After lunch we force our way up to Antioch Pier and bridge, we troll for a while but to no love.

Off the water at 3pm.  All in a great day with a new friend!

I will let Bink show the pic of his monster, that every one on the leaders board wants!

Sorry no Pics

Okay, sorry for the delay.  Ended up dealing with some work issues on some production systems today, thus the late update.  At any rate, as kmstorm64 said, we left around 7:00 AM and were on the water by 8:30.

kmstorm64 ready to get on the water.

I start out with a 5" watermelon black and red flake senko weightless on a 2/0 worm hook and 6 pound test mono which I work along the edges of the tules.  After about an hour, I get a bump, bump, bump on the end of my line.  I set the hook and fish on!  On the 6 pound test, the fish pulls some line, so I'm thinking, a small bass.  When I get it closer to the yak I see a flash of color and it looks like a plate, so I think, maybe a crappie?  I get it up to the side of my yak and it is a big sunfish either a green or bluegill.  I don't think I've ever caught a sunfish on worm that big with such a large hook.

note the rod pod hatch on my trident 13 and my size 12 foot to the left for comparison.

Tried some white flukes and a rattle trap but no more action the rest of the day.  Saw a lot of wild life and there were not too many power boats.  I had a great time fishing with km and look forward to fishing with him again.  All in all a great day on the water, a new friend, great weather (much better than expected) and great paddling (not so great fishing, but still ...).

Michael

That thing is awesome, I didn't even know those were down there at big break.  Maybe I'll bring some worms next time.
