Does it really make a difference? vs. The standard one? I mean a substantial one?

I would tend to say yes.  I have never seen any type of sail boat with a small rudder.  40 years ago my grandfather had a stryafoam sail boat, 10-12 foot long, it came with a wooden rudder and keel as I recall and neither were small.  I am sure there is some engineering formula for it.  I would think the larger rudder would help keep it heading in the desired direction, I find my hobbie doesn't track without one, and only really marginally corrects it.

Difference in Sailing or just regular usage?  I think the standard rudder is fine on mine for general use.  But seems too small for sailing (which I have the sail)  I end up going more sideways than forward  :smt044

Ask Chuck and some of the other fellas, I'm pretty sure they respond with a resounding yes.

I've been meaning to make the conversion, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Al, I think he just means with general use.

I noticed a marked improvement on the turning ability of my adventure.  I just moved the sailing rudder from my adventure to my revolution and will try it this weekend and let you know

I mounted the "Hobie" twist and stow sailing rudder onto my T-13. It really stayed on track in the wind at Cedros Island.

Absolutely! With nearly double the surface area, it really tightens up the turning radius and, more generally, boosts responsiveness. It provides much better tracking, particularly in higher winds/swells and, not to be underestimated, allows on-the-fly course adjustments while drifting. It probably isn't as necessary for freshwater conditions, but I'd definitely recommend it in the salt.

Thanks guys. I ordered one. For $22 it seems like a pretty cheap upgrade.

The sailing rudder is better all around.
Tighter and more responsive turns when pedaling or sailing.

MD I was about to place a hobie accessory order through austin kayak. I order all my hobie related stuff through them since they send me 15% off coupons and it saves me time and $$ over driving to a hobie dealer, plus hook1 doesn't carry much hobie stuff.
