Hello everyone.I have been all over the bay area looking a large pool noodle, have had no luck locating. All I need
is a piece to mount trasducer.Anyone know where I might find one, or can somebody spare a piece ? I was going  to use a piece of crab float, but some said that might not work as well.Any help is appreciated.

I used a piece of foam that computers are packed in (not the stiff white polystyrene) but the same stuff noodles are made of. You may want to check with a local elect store or your IT dept (assuming you work at a co that has one).

I just re set my transducer the other day and looked all over for a pool noodle of a size that would work.. nada.   Walmart had a few but they were too small diameter.    Ended up using one of those foam kneeling pads for gardening and it worked great.   I actually made it double thick, just gooped two pieces together and cut out the transducer shape.

I went to Michaels and bought a foam letter "O".
I believe it was a black one of these:

With some minor trimming it fit my transducer puck perfectly and has been used without a problem for more than2 1/2 years. Here's my original post w/step-by-step install: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,9955.msg89069.html#msg89069

Also picked up some big ones at WalMart...probably seasonal item though. I have an extra one if you or a friend are ever in the Fremont area. Or at Yakhopper's Clear Lake event on the weekend of April 10.

Another thing you could use is a foam block that people use for yoga.  Easy to find in sporting goods departments and stores, $5-7 or so.  I like the texture better and it carves up nicely with a sharp knife.

Please forgive the silly question but why do you need the pool noodle for the transducer?  I'm guessing to protect it from gear sliding around the inside of the kayak hull?  Maybe you are gluing the transducer to the glued down noodle piece to cushion the bounce effect while paddling up wind?
I have heard of guys stuffing the kayak with them in case of an emergency to keep the kayak afloat but thats all.
Thanks!

x2 on the yoga block. I got mine a Walmart. Works great! Also picked up a baster at Walmart for putting water in and taking it out.
