I am going to hit Shasta lake tomorrow.  Anyone who wan't to come is welcome!  I will be at Phils Prop Shop at 8:30-9:00 am for "mean minnows" and other tackle which catches my fancy.

I am thinking Cintimudi and just paddle back and forth in front of the dam.  Packers Bay would be a good choice as well.  The next cove to the west is called Waters Gulch.  It has great incoming water and I have absolutely killed the bass and trout in there.  It is about a 3- 3 1/2 mile paddle to the cove from packers.  It would definately be an all day trip into there.

The reports I am hearing are the salmon and trout are biting good at the dam, salmon at 50-60 ft on a sling blade and criplure or needle fish.  trout are hitting top lining, from the surface to 15 ft on anything that looks edible.  I have seen a lot of guys mooch for salmon as well.  You drop a chunk of sardine/anchovie or a live minnow down to 50 and wait to be bit.  I have motored and paddled around to find a group and then dropped a lure down to them with great results.  Too bad we can't get right against the dam anymore.  I have done well this time of year on bass there.

Waters cove is great for bass and trout, usually on minnows.  I go into the cove where the water comes in and drift my way back out.  There is a great creek channel where the bass stack up.  The trout circle into the cove to hit and run the bait.

Thanks guys, I have the camera charging now.  That is sure to jinx me  :smt003  I may have to compile a video, especially if Banjotad comes along!

I am leaning toward Cinimudi, looks like they are predicting PM rain, and it always funnels into the lake.  Should make the fishing good!  I would rather be a mile or two from the ramp in the rain, than 4.

I just put together a poor mans downrigger.  50 ft of rope (and another 20 in case I have to add more), 2 lb ball on the end and a downrigger clip.  My cannon downrigger is a little large for the kayak.  I have used this set-up prior to buying a downrigger on my power boat and it worked fine.  It should work great on the kayak, although I will likely have to do a lot of paddle corrections.

Hope you boys are slayin' them today, here's one I pulled out on Saturday (non-yak).  We didn't get the numbers, but they were all quality fish (picked up a 16" smallie as a bonus too!).  Did a bit of trolling for trout w/ no love.
