Went out to Linda Mar today for crabs with a friend on my inflatable on Saturday.

The sea was beautiful.  Swell height is low and well spaced apart. The surf reminded me of Hawaii.  Some wind was coming from the East (Diablo wind) when I launch about 10 AM that died off little later.

Crabbing was slow.  I know it's slow because I was catching more starfish than crabs.   A couple other kayaker were also in the area also going for crabs.  They said it was slow for them too.  I Used salmon head and belly for bait in 35 to 55 ft water.  Used circle net.

Ended the day around 2PM with 6-7 legal size dungies and few red crabs.  I lost a couple good size dungies that were hanging under the net.  and few kingfish and smelts.  My friend had a big fish that followed his bait to the surface in about 35 feet of water, but it swam away.  Looked like a big flounder or stingray or something.    The water was black and visibility was great.  I could see my net about 20 feet deep.   I metered a few schools of baitfish while crabbing.

Good luck if you are going out.  Do it while the sea is still calm.

the other two kayakers you saw was Stuart and myself (skyboy). WE had a great time but as was said, the crabbing was slow. We did manage to catch a few rockfish, and a limit of cabs. I also caught a 22" black that was about 14" around, It was huge. no pictures. But Stuart will testify. It was good to get out with my good friend I don't get to fish with much. We finished the evening last night with dinner at my house. Lincodlonny and family, and Stuart and family. We need to do that more often. Linda mar has been a bathtub for a few days, only a slight offshore breeze with occasional gust to about 5 MPH.

Humu,

Joe and I had a slow time crabbing.  I got 5 and he had 3.

Fishing was a little slow too, but the weather more than made up for it.  Truly a great day to be on the water.  I just wish we could have stayed longer.

The black that Joe caught was the biggest I've seen.  Probably in the neighborhood of 6lbs.

Stuart/Skyboy,

22 inches black.   That is huge.  Sounds like a mutant.

Was out there in my gray scupper pro for few hours, ended up with about 25 legals between 2 traps... graded to a solid 10.

Box traps, rockfish bait, bigger ones were to middle of cove ~45-50ft.

Right on, Fuzz!..... That's an awesome catch.  It's nice to have the option to cull and grade up to bigger crabs.
My buddy from WA state can't believe we Californian's have a 10 crab limit.  He said the limit in Oregon and WA only 5 or 6 crabs per person.

As I recall, aren't the crabs up there a bit larger?  I know the limit size is larger.
