I have an old travel trailer that I want to convert into an enclosed yak fishing/camping toy box. :smt003
Here is some video of the demolition.
<object style="height: 344px; width: 425px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4wNEhsBO1ZY"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4wNEhsBO1ZY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></object>

The floor measures 14X7 feet.
I want it to hold 2 yaks, fishing and camping gear.
It still has the fresh water and waste water tanks, and propane tanks.
I don't know what systems I want to include or eliminate.

I welcome ideas or suggestions.

Help me out guys, what do you think?

Thanks Tad

It may be just the way I think, but maybe 4 walls and a roof would be good if your wanting it for camping. Oh wait, you had one of those.  :smt003 Good luck on the rebuild.

In the back be sure to install a large enough opening (with door that is securable) so that you can slide the yaks into the (yak wide) floor space that runs entirely from front to back.  This should be give you the space to stack your yaks either on edge or on top of each other.  Also install a rod holder system against the roof to keep them out of the way.  For eveything else have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about something like this?  :smt044

Or this was cool, but I think i'm missing the point of it.  Cool little kitchen pop-out thing, but I didn't see a bed?

Darn, on demo I was thinking it woulda been nice to light a candle, turn on a stove burner and run like hell,

but then again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Looks like the start to a fun project.

Thanks guys,
Als, the 5th wheel is overkill, but I do like the idea of an outdoor kitchen on the smaller one :smt004

racinrob, yes 4 walls and a roof, so I can just leave the yaks in it for storage,
but low profile no more than 3-4 ft walls :smt001

martianfish,
In the back be sure to install a large enough opening (with door that is securable) so that you can slide the yaks into the (yak wide) floor space that runs entirely from front to back.  This should be give you the space to stack your yaks either on edge or on top of each other.  Also install a rod holder system against the roof to keep them out of the way.  For eveything else have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking,
Great minds think alike :smt002

Dale L, I did think about that (much less effort) :smt003 but I wanted to save some systems for rebuild use, and I think the Fire Dept. would frown on that :smt011

Ohhh the possibilities!!! :smt007

The possibilities indeed, Keep the ideas coming guys :smt003

Thanks,
Tad

Wow Tad, when you get an idea you go for it!  Intresting,  I think the 3-4 ft raised box for the kayaks is a great idea.  Put in some boat style carpeted runners along the bottom to just slide the kayaks in and out.  You might want to extend the box some, so you can fit a 15-16 ft boat, if you get a larger kayak later.

You could build a teardrop trailer style sleeping system on the top of the "kayak box", toward the front of the trailer.  That way you can sleep right over your kayak and gear storage.  Something simple for just a mattress. Maybe put that rear kitchen on the back of the sleeping area.  Without the kitchen, you could enter the sleeping area from the side or the back, just have a ladder or stairs to climb on and off the box.

Maybe put a rack bolted on the rear for additional gear and tote storage.  A couple locking plastic truck boxes would work great.  Here is a rough little sketch to show what I was thinking of and trying to explain.  I could draw something up on Autocad for better dimensions and detail if you wanted.

You could even put a kitchen on the front tongue by the propane tanks.  Maybe have an ice box and cupboards angled to one side and a stove and cupboards to the other, to keep the clean angle of the tongue, and be able to use it without straddling the tongue of the trailer or the hitch.  By angling it you could still use it while hooked up to your truck too.

Geez Matt,  :smt007 :smt004

Looks like you gave this some thought, :smt003
maybe more than me so far :smt012

I like some of your ideas, :smt003

The kitchen unit on the front triangle is sweet,
I can run flex propane hose from the tanks to the stove (I like the fold down idea) and to a lantern.
I saved the sink, so maybe I could work that into that area as well. :smt001
I saved the fold down table so that could go some where in that area.

I like the loft idea also,
I saved the windows so maybe 1 on each side and 1 on the rear of the sleeping loft.
I already have a mattress and 12 volt lights for it as well.

I'm thinking instead of a ladder to the loft just have the door go down to floor of yak storage area for access to front of storage area.

Thanks Matt,
Your a genius in my eyes, but where should the HOT TUB go :smt005
Keep the ideas coming buddy, When we gonna hit the lake?

Your wish is my command!:

I like your door idea better.  It would make entry easier, and like you said allow front entry to the kayak hatch.  Definately add windows to the sleeping area.

If the weather clears, lets try and hit the lake next week!  I really want to try my new transducer set-up.  I took the power boat up in the rain on Monday for 16 bass, no trout.  Minnows were the hot bait.  I also broke down and got a season pass.

I was going to say that the original design seemed to have too much tongue weight. It didn't look proportioned between the forward and rearward part of the wheels. That is, until I saw the hot tub added.
