Sic fish Tui! Beautiful colors on that one. Awesome!

BTW, didnt they just start a new boat inspection for Tahoe? Including kayaks ?
I was just at a meeting today on Independence Lake and the subject of boat inspections on kayaks at Tahoe was brought up.  So yes, they'll be inspections but I don't know when it will start and how it will be implemented.  I'll try and check up on it tomorrow.

from what I understand they are supposed to do kayak inspections on tahoe but they are to be done for no charge since they are non motorized

You didn't have to show the rest of the fish.  The tail alone says it all.  that thing is huge1 :smt003

Nice, the ramp at Sand Harbor is closed so there's no inspection there.  I did call NV State Parks and they told me it was OK to launch kayaks there.  Another nice thing is they are not locking the gate, you can stay till after sundown which is what I did.

Here's a few pictures of the area.

Kayak Beach

On the water

There's at least one fish in the lake. Downrigger ball at 80'. Temp actually around 40 not 48.

Thinking of buying this one  :smt005

OK, here's my first crack at uploading video to YouTube.  I uploaded the video at 1080p.  YouTube then reformates and recompresses it to several smaller sizes.  The 1080p is not as good as what I uploaded but it seems to be OK.  Nothing interesting in this video other than me pedaling around.  At 1080p I need to pause the video and buffer it awhile, at 720p I was able to keep up.  Double click on the image to watch it on YouTube if you want to see it full screen.  I'm going try Vimeo and see if it's any better.

yeah i drove through that area last year and thought it would be a good launch spot.  a bit out of my range for this weekend though.  what type of FF are you using? looks like a lowrance or eagle.

It's an older Lowrance X515C.  It's nice but it sucks down power big time.  I'm using a 33 AH battery with it now for a full day of fishing.

I don't know the name of the fly.  I just rummage through the salt water fly section at Scheels and pick out what looks interesting, then rig it up for jigging.  Here's the fly with a Pyramid lake cutthroat.

Also looking forward to tonights Lost episode.

Soooo, if a guy was going to fish Tahoe for macks, when would be the best time to give it a try? Not ever trying there, I'm clueless. Many many years ago I tried Donner once for em with no luck. This jigging thing sounds very interesting tho........

From the reports I'm hearing, it's from now to probably the end of April.  After that you'll have to start fighting the power boats.  Right now people are catching macs, browns, and rainbows toplining.  I would troll shallow in the mornings and evenings and either use downriggers, heavy weights for trolling deep or jigging during mid day for macs.
