I'm thinking about launch at Miller Park in the morning and fishing around the bay, ride the outgoing tide to the clam beds and get the clams, then ride the incoming tide back to the Miller Park.  Not sure how long will it take to paddle from Miller Park to the clam beds.  Maybe Craig know since this is his back yard  :smt003

I'm not giving up on catching the Catfish in that lake.  I'm doing research on the ultimate bait for them.  Just got "local" intel that the Catfish in this lake loves "Salami"  :smt003 I'll try that next time and if they don't eat it, I will  :smt044

Thats a long ass paddle Sonny and not much happeneing in the bay right now as far as fish goes. I would go clamming from Lawsons. They are trying to close it you know. Sign the petition on the way in and enjoy the little paddle to the clam beds and for gods sake save your energy for digging man. :smt006

Thanks for the advise Craig.  I checked Goole map and it's about 2.5 miles from Miller Park.  I think if we paddle with the tide it might take about 1.5 hours.  I'd like to make this trip when the fishing is picking up in the bay and enjoy the scenery along the way!

Sailfish-
I'm a recent NCKA member and have read a bunch of your post. I have been clamming at Tomales twice before. I love those horsenecks and love getting up to my neck in mud goin after them. Since I'm recently on a little vacation from my work due to this recession I have nothing but free time. I'd love to head up to Tomales and clam w/ u. As for gear, I just have my waders, but seeing as I have a couple days I can build/acquire the necessary tools. Just give me a little heads up on gear and I can get it together. I live in SF also, so I'm not opposed to meeting up and carpooling either. Just keep me in touch. I think about those horsenecks almost every other day…excited!

You're a machine Sonny.
Why don't you bring the sail kit to make up more time.  If anyone can do it, it would be you.  Just remember to set channel 16 and 9 on the dial of your vhf. :smt044

Hi Prentice,

All you need is a kayak to cross the channel to the clam beds, a shovel to dig for clam, and a pvc tube to keep the hole you dig from collapse as you dig deeper and deeper  :smt003  If you don't have the equipment (shovel and/or pvc tube) you can share mine this time.  Here is a post from last year clamming at Tomales:

I'm in. Craig's call gets my vote. Also being closer to the mouth has more chance of market crab. I hope that this petion is more effective than the one up at Berryessa a few years back. Any chance of making bait?? Something a catfish might bite on!! dave...

I think it's very doable but I'll wait til the fishing get better in this bay.  As for the sail, I did try it and would not be a bad idea to bring it along for this trip  :smt003

I agree. We'll launch at Lawsons this time.  Thanks for reminding me that clam is also a great Catfish bait  :smt007
