I'm new to this too.  I'll ask my friend and let you guys know about the baits, type of pots, and where you can catch them.

It could be lost due to the bad weather last several weeks.  He recorded these pots on his FF/GPS but bad storms can cause these pots to move and you know how hard it's trying to find a small buoy in the open sea!

My friend just got back to me with the info.  He uses cat food or dog food, which ever on sale or cheaper to buy  :smt003 And he usually drops the shrimp pots in area around 120' - 150' deep along with his crab pots.

That because he got a boat so he can go further out for bigger crabs.  According to the weblink:

"Coonstripe Shrimp occupy the area from IntertidallyThe intertidal zone (also known as the foreshore and seashore and sometimes referred to as the littoral zone) is the area that is exposed to the air at low tide and underwater at high tide (for example, the area between tide marks). This area can include many different types of habitats, including steep rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, or wetlands (e.g., vast mudflats). down to 600 feet."

So chances are we might able to catch them in the shallow water too!  Never hurt to try  :smt003

I'm guessing yours are different species since the Scoonstripes look more like below picture:
