Looks like I'm going to spend a little time for work in the Ft. Lauderdale area.  I know the Keys have great stuff but is there any local fishing to be had around Ft. Lauderdale for a before work/after work type thing?  Any fishing in the harbors/canals?  Thanks.

I lived in Sunrise, just west of Ft L. If you drive west, you come to the swamp, look at a map and hit the canal that goes all the way across, so you can access it, if you can rent a yak, its a bass paradise, little gars too, or if you can get you hands on a mnt bike you can ride all the way, flat as a pancake and 100 miles of swamp to the gulf. and Lake Ocechobe is up in Palm Beach, an hour, lots of bass there too. Watch out for the gators if your walking around, the females are looking for a place to nest about now and will come after you, even the small ones. And fire ants like to nest in the tall grass on the edge too. Ive walked into them without knowing, ouch! Bug spray on your pants helps.

There's also a warm water release in Ft L, at the power plant, you cant fish but there's a viewing spot to check out the action, its pretty cool, if you get there in the am, its feeding time for the predatory fish, big ones, on the baitfish schools. Manatees are always there too, people toss in heads of lettuce for them.
