Caples/Red/Silver Lakes for the late summer trout event.  Maybe a three lake combo event where you take your pick and convene at a single parking lot end of day.  Lots of lodging nearby on Hwy 88.  While it would make a full day if coming from Man Jose, I enjoy that drive. I had a lot of fun there last October.

Jackson Rancheria Indian Casino is nearby for anyone who wants to lose they wampum.

that sounds like a really cool idea.  those lakes don't get as much boat traffic as the downhill lakes (although they still get plenty) and they have good summer trout fishing unlike many of our summer lakes which require going real deep.

Caples/Red/Silver Lakes

or Beardsley

or Prosser (5mph limit) in Truckee

I love the higher elevation lakes, much nicer...

I suggest the Lake San Antonio for the bass tourney in April. The lake has SMB, LMB, spots, and stripers (April is a great time for smallies btw). It's on the southern end of the Norcal spectrum, but easily accessible from Fresno. In the summer, there is a lakelice problem, but April is early-season and we could probably make basecamp on the south shore (maybe even get the group site?), where there are 5mph zones in Harris Creek etc.

Used to backpack into Spicer in the summer and the fishing for trout was good at the inlet end. They had problems with Whirling disease or another parasite a few years ago but I believe that has cleared up. There are some 4WD lakes inthe Tahoe area which could be fun.
