Ideally...ideally...I would like all my gear to run off of my 12v 7ah/10ah battery...just seems cleaner.

Gear would include: Sonar, GPS, bait-well (may use pvc tube method though...no batteries), and RUNNING lights...as I will be night fishing.

Should I just say screw it to the running lights on 12v? I just like the fact that I have one damn battery and am not buying/recharging multiple smaller batteries.

Is this feasible? Just requires more work?

Running VHF from 12v isn't an option I think as radio needs to be clipped to your vest or near by and not "tethered".

Unless I was going to run a live tank, I wouldn't go back to the 5 lb (or more) 12V battery.  Remember, you have ot buy a battery and charger-one that automatically shuts off.  Rechargeable AA's and charger are probably cheaper, but sure lighter.  I bought an LED 360 deg night light, and I expect it to last a lot longer than a regular bulb.  I sewed some velcro straps onto my life vest and tote my VHF and cell phone that way -they're out of the way but there to use if I get separated from my yak.   By the time you land and subdue a fish, you can change all the settings on your radio/gps if they are in the way- I was on Canadian channels for a couple of trips without knowing it!

Running lights via 12v doesn't make sense as cable would have to run length of yak...I want white light on pole behind me...will just tie-wrap it to milk crate.

If I installed this white light in front of me for ease of cabling...it would annoy me to no end. I'd be staring into a bright light...yuck! Will probably mount port/starboard glowsticks to front of yak as well.

I have decided NOT to wire my GPS to Sonar...thus elim'g GPS from 12v ring...it will run off of batteries and be in a waterproof case.

So just Sonar (Matrix 37) and my already 12v fishing lights (submersible kind!) will be powered by battery under hatch....thanks.
