I just got off the phone with hte CL Poster selling a used Outback for $995. He has two and I get 1st pick.  Since the drives are interchangeable are there any known hot spots for wear or corrosion to look for?

He bought these new in '06 and has had them in Del Valle 4 times.  The rest of the time they've sat in the garage.

Were there any known issues with these units in '06?  Any other tips on what to inspect?

BTW they are green and tan.  I figured the tan would have better (although limited) visibility out there.

As far as I know fish don't care about color but power boaters do.

you could flip the yak upside down and inspect for any cracks around the drive well area.
you may get more info here:

Check the mirrage drive cables for tightness and any signs of excessive wear or corrosion.

Go to the site above and do a search on "mirage cracks."  There is info on the 05-06 with Turbo Fins.  The Turbos are a real plus on that boat.

Good luck

Yeah, you are either getting a steal or he is taking you out behind the shed and ...

Like others said, do a little research online regarding the area where the mirage drive is inserted.  Hobie makes a repair kit but don't know about warranty issues - if it even exists on a boat that old.
