Anyone interested in a gear swap afterwards? I have TONS of unused tackle and gear I will bring.

I've got a few things to unload.  I'd be interested if there are enough people.

Cool, I have extra rods/reels, tackle, downrigger I will bring. I am not in need for money, I would rather trade for stuff I would actually use  :smt003

I'm going to hold off buying a new rod and reel until I know more. It seems (from the pictures anyway) that a lot of guys carry 3 or 4 poles. Can somebody tell me how they are rigging up these different poles?

Probably a good idea.  If you're looking for a new outfit, wait until after event and check out some of the different rods that people have.  I know I don't mind if you want to look over mine after fishing.

I typically carry 3-4, depending on the the type of fishing I'll be doing.  If it is for trout, I'll have a couple lighter trolling rods for spoons, grubs, and rapalas.  I also have a couple rods with a little more backbone should I want to pull a dodger or flasher, or a larger rapala.  I also have a small spinning rod for casting lures at rising fish should I come across some.  That and if I bring a buddy, I usually end up needint to loan a rod or two.

thanks for the advice

Hi All,

I was considering going on Friday night and car camping.  However, I know that they close the gates at night and I won't be able to make it there until at least 8:30 PM but probably closer to 9:00 PM.  Does anyone know how late the gates are open?  If not, I will probably just find a motel to stay in for the night.  Thanks!

Michael

Thanks!  Looks like I will be looking for a motel room then.  See you all there.

I've been looking for Carson Creek on maps of New Melones and IK'm not seeing it. How would a guy get there?

Thanks

Ben

carson is the first big creek on the left (north) as you are paddling towards the 49 bridge from glory hole.  tons of trees in there, you will know it when you see it.  if you hit the bridge you've gone too far

FishFarmer Ben,

There is a large island with two peaks (one large, one smaller) that is almost straight out from the launch ramp, about 1-1.5 miles.  Carson Creek is directly to the left of those islands, looking from the launch ramp.  Here is a rough map of the Glory Hole area--http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ccao/newmelones/maps/Glory%20Hole%20Recreation%20Area.pdf.

Carson creek is the body of water between Gold Rush Trail and Carson Creek Trail.

I plan on going up tomorrow afternoon and staying until Sat. night.  PM me if you need more info.

Thanks for the directions guys.

I have wife obligations on Friday, so I'm thinking of fishing there tomorrow AM, back on Saturday early. I've been to New Melones twice, but launched from the bridge and never quite got to Glory Hole.

See you there.
