Count me in.  It wil be my 1st NCKA outing.  A nice freshwater start for my new (to me) Outback.  Hopefully I can get a FF rigged by then.

changing my launch to tuttletown.  there is a BASS Federation tourney on this date at melones and they will likely be using the glory hole ramp. just prefer to keep out of their way.  from my best guess, it will be about 25boats, which is not too bad for a lake the size of NM.

So does this mean the after-party will be at Tuttleton too?

Also, Ben, count me down for one more person.

no, i think we'll do it at your campsite.  there should be almost no one around so we can have the run of the place.

OK good, cuz had you said yes, I was going to change our reservations to Tuttleton.  Glad I don't have to go through that hassle.

If it makes you feel any better, Saturday has a 40% chance of showers with a high of 61 degrees.

Scratch that, the forecast now says partly cloudy with a high of 62 degrees and only a 20% chance of rain.

I am sure the weather report will change 100 times before the actual day, lol

Hello to all, I'm Tiny. Thank you to all for all the information on this site. I purchased a Tarpon 140 a couple months ago and I finished a self-rescue course at Half Moon Bay Kayak three weeks ago.  I've paddled in my kayak 2 or 3 times but never fished.  I'm a life-long fisherman but a new kayaker.  I would like to make my maiden voyage at the New Melones tournament on February 20th.  Would this be okay as a newbie?  I'm very cautious and would probably not go out very far.  I'm looking forward to kayak-fishing.   I have zero long-term fishing friends interested.  I want to start fishing within the NCKA.

A couple of questions: Is there a group camp or individual campsites? Is there room still available to participate or am I applying too late?

Thanks,
Tiny

hi Tiny,

come on down.  check the events page and I will update it with the final details soon.  there are plenty of guys who will be out there, and melones is a very easy lake to paddle, although it's huge.

the only real concerns there for a newbie would be fog and the power boats.  you should be fine though.  you can paddle and hug the shoreline if you're concerned (most of the trout are shoreline oriented still), if you have a vhf radio bring it, if not i am bringing an extra and you can borrow it.

as for campsites, its quiet this time of year so if you need one they should be easy to reserve.  you might be able to go into dilbeck's campsite - send him a private message.

and welcome to the site! or as mooch would say, welcome to the madness!

Hello all,

Since this will be my first NCKA event and tournament I have a few questions you all might be able to help me with.

What are the rules for the tournament?
Where will everyone be camping? Is there a centralized area or is it random?
What time does the tournament start?
What are the trout biting on up there now?
Any other advice or knowledge you can share would be appreciated.

Regards,
Mike
