Bill,  they are made of materials including but not limited to
brass, iron, aluminum, and lead.

I think the diamond jigs are chromed brass, not sure.

I bought some retired san diegan's tackle box on Ebay, I got "irons" made out of a
variety of things. some crazy ones in there. Are you thinking of making your own?
How about some lead inside resin? that could be cool. 6 oz torpedo weight inside
a resin block full of glitter?

For that price I would say lead.

You are probably right doc, I know some are made of lead but I have also had people tell me that they don't like the lead ones cause they don't flutter enough. I took a hacksaw to one I had and it was silver past the surface so it was either a really thick chrome job or the metal was chrome all the way through.

I was thinking of makin them and your resin idea sounds like a good way to go about it. I might just have to give that a try...

I have also heard zinc for some jigs?

Also in my san diego box was a cool popper made of resin and I've seen
trolling heads for feathers made with resin and abalone shell, that's what
made me think of the resin iron.  you could embed eyes too.

mirrolures are foil inside resin. they always look good compared to everything else.

A lot of work for something that you are going to embed on the bottom
of the ocean probably, but then again, if it's fun, who cares?

I would top mount the hooks to reduce snag issues but yeah it is just fun. It is a big rush to me to catch a fish on something I made.

I think most deep jigging iron are made of chromed brass.

Pure lead I doubt as it is far too soft.

The cheapest diamond jig-  Go to goodwill and dig through thier silverware pile- pick out heavier knives with handles- pay the cashier .25 per knife- drill a hole in each end, w/ a drill press and high speed drill bit, slap a split ring on each end and a treble hook, and you've wasted a couple of hours, a couple beers and a couple of bucks to make 10 or so jigs.

I'll post the next ling I catch with my "butterknife special"  They work well!!!! :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

Rusty,
Just post one of the jigs. I love innovative ideas that work. K.I.S.S.  Butter knife, goodwill and fishing what more is there. :smt007 You sure your not part Filipino??? :smt003 Sounds like a jig my Father would use. Instead of a jig wrap I could carry a silverware wrap that would be just precious to see the looks on my partners faces when I unload something like this on them. So pleassse post this new cutting edge jig. pun intended

I've head of the butterknife jigs before.  You can also fill them with lead or use lead shot and let it rattle a bit.  And put shiny shit stickers on them.

Here's a pic of some beautiful ones made by "Eric G."  You've probably seen him on some of the other boards.

IMO, diamond jigs work because of the sound, flash and flutter are just secondary features.  Lead jigs will almost always get outfished if going head to head with other materials because of that. I've fished iron of all makes and materials and the best producer has always been the bead diamond jig.
