There are guys who fish stillwater and other near shore kelp from pontoon boats and float tubes so an inflatable yak would be fine as long as you are within swimming distance to shore and you are dressed to swim and you kow how to swim. I would stick to beach/non surf launches and avoid tide pool or rocky shore launches to reduce risk of puncture. Stillwater, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Capitola, Pigeon Point (sharky), Fort Ross, Cambria (leffingwell), and Avila would be reasonable places to start out. Avoid Bean Hollow, Big Sur, Piedras Blancas and any other shark infested surf launches. I would definitely hook up with 2 or more experienced yakkers when you head out on big blue. The nice thing about inflatables is that if you wipe out in the surf, you don't have to worry about your yak whomping you on your head.  :smt005 Look forward to your reports and welcome to NCKA.

Cambria is a really easy and safe launch.  I did get flipped once before making it out, but I shouldn't have even tried it because there was a storm and I never check.  My big fishndive about broke my neck and I was so cold that I was breathing really quickly and my nuts hurt like hell.  Hope it never happens again.

The others have given you good advise. Now that I see a picture of your boat you deffinitely should not take it out unless you plan on swimming back.

If you had a hypalon made by a more reputable company it would be one thing but your boat is a liability. I would be careful about which lakes I would take it on let alone the ocean. What if a little offshore breeze picks up and your electric motor can't keep up. You won't be able to fight even a small wind or current with your oars. There is nothing scarier than trying as hard as you can to get back to shore and losing ground the whole time.

Good luck and be safe out there. You can always fish from shore or rent a yak if it is only a once a year kinda thing.

Thats a real cool boat but you should wear a wetsuit and bring a submersible radio cause theres a good chance its going to pop and sink. At least bring a cooler to put the fish in, they have spines everywhere, and good luck!
I had a Sev for years and loved it but rockfishing might just do it in.

Same boat I had (when I used to fish Lake Merced) - without the motor and the camo cover. Inflating and deflating the boat got old really quick. Ended up getting a float tube instead. IMO: It's really hard to beat a kayak  :smt045

I say Go For It! ...just don't "go" too far lol. Wear a PFD and a farmer-john wetsuit and carry a VHF radio. And maybe bring a shallow tupperware container to place the rockfish in while you remove the hook and 'dispatch' them.
