No call to work so I fished both days 10 to 4 :smt003

Dam area Monday trout trolling 1 bite that came unbuttoned :smt012

Jones Valley area Tuesday focused on bass, 1 12 in. spotted on plastic worm :smt001 and about 5 missed bites :smt011 The bass were suspended about 20-30 ft. down.

Being a relative bass rookie, any tips for fishing suspended bass this time of year?

No video, dead battery :smt012

Lake has come up about 5 ft., :smt001 only 120 ft. to go :smt009

Tight lines all,
Tad

thanks for the report even with out mant fish. Maybe next time try drop shoting for the suspended bass. Night crawlers or minnows will work to key is to get the bait in front of them not much movement of your rod tip might be key as well. Has worked for me in the past.

Glad you got out Tad.  I would have loved to join you, but I am getting over the H1N1 junk.  Nasty, although I didn't have it as bad as some.  I caught it at the hospital visiting my dad.  He just got out after a 3 week stay for a intestinal infection.  It layed me out for 5 days though, I can finally sit up and get on the computer again.

Maybe I can get out with you when I get some strength back.  I will show you some bass tricks.  I dropshot minnow imittations and wacky rig worms, I also use real minnows a lot this time of year.  A little bait bucket, some split shot and small mosquito hooks are all you need.  I drop to the bottom, reel up a few turns and wait for the tap.

I am headed to the coast the 16th-19th with the wife.  May sneak in the kayak for some crabbing and bay sharks....

Take care! Matt

Thanks for the tips guys :smt001
I was Texas rigging plastic worms, tubes and grubs.
I'll give dropshot a try next time :smt002

Matt, sorry to hear about you and your dad, glad your both doing better :smt001
Good luck at the coast, I can't wait for rockfish season to open. After my first ocean trip at GS III I'm
addicted. Look forward to you schooling me on bass technique :smt004

Thanks for the details and hope it rains for 40days&40nights!
i have yet to figure it out too.....some say go with a Jig and Trailer, Drop-shot and anything to get deep. I have got lucky on a big 7"Wacky'd Senko, but not enough of them to claim as a skill. I do see them on the FF and try for them with different plastics, but only a few have bit.

Tad, as soon as duck seasons over I'll be out there with you.  This time of year it's either drop-shotting or jigging (or minnows as the old standby).  Use your graph, find them bunched up in a main body cove @ about 30' deep, sit on them and stick 'em.

3/4 to 1oz hopkins style spoon should work pretty well. its an old standby that people tend to ignore with all their newfangled lures and such, but it catches fish...just thinking about it has me all excited and i might have to go out this weekend to do it..

Try drop shotting a small salt and pepper worm on those bass.  Kaster master works pretty good too.  If you don't drop shot try a Palomar knot on a small bait hook with a long tag and put a split shot at the tag end.  Put the hook through the nose of a small hand poured worm.  Drop in front of them and shake it.
