I love Luhr Jensens lures, especially the krocodile, I was wondering if anyone had any good reports of Dymara lures?  They seem to be much cheaper than Luhr Jensen and yet look very similar.

Okay, no one has an answer.

Dymara lures are only sold on eBay(for the most part).  Hence the most likely reason why you have never used them.  I find them on eBay pretty cheap.  $15-20 for 10 lures plus another $6-$10 for shipping.  That turns out roughly $2-$3 a lure.  Not bad!
If you were to buy a Krocodile 5/8 oz at Walmart, you are looking at about $2.75 and a 1oz kroc will run about $3.50.

Please check out eBay and search on "Dymara", and tell me what you think.

These Dymara lures comes in Jigs and spoon types.  They look promising.
I really like the looks of their jigs.  Most tackle stores will sell jigs at about $1.50-2 an ounce.  The jigs around 1oz. is what I am interested in.

You might ask why I am interested in 1oz.  The answer is for a couple of reasons.
1.) I'll be fishing in the kelp, somewhere around 30-60 feet.  1oz will be perfect for this depth.
2.) The Halibut are in Malibu.  The tools I like to use are small jigs/ spoons and FT.

here is a pic of my last Halibut 2 weeks ago.  notice in the pic I don't have my FF installed.  That is because I dropped it in the sand and got sand all over the dielectric grease, causing my FF not work.  Brought it home, cleaned it and everything is fine.

btw, can you jig a kroc? do you use them that way?

historically I have used those things a lot, back when I was just shore casting during surf trips, usually in mexico. I was just casting and retrieving at varying speeds. They do catch a lot of fish for sure.

I have a couple left in my tackle box, including a big 3.25 ouncer I was thinking of jigging for rockcod, but I read on www.mexfish.com that they jig just okay, not as good as a slim jigging lure like the stinger.

I'd rather save them for future warm water surf trips if they don't jig that well anyway.

I think you should stick with luhr-jensen. go with the proven solution.

if you are buying 10 @ a time, you could probably get a deal on krocs somewhere too.

cabelas claims to have bulk pricing:

what'd you catch that 'but on? how did you fish the lure/bait?

Dymara seems to be relative new, and by looking at some of your guys
homemade lures, I would think Dymara would do just fine.

Buy 10 @ a time for $25 or one at a time for $5.  Buying bulk will always
save mo money.  Cabela wants to charge $3.49 for a 5/8 oz, so I doubt
their bulk is that much cheaper.

I jig with spoons(Krocs) all the time in Malibu and seem to do quite
well with them.  Usually I catch smaller fish, but I have caught 2 Halibuts
this year on Krocs.  Only tried light jigs once in Baja and have done well
over there.

My plan is to use spoons, jigs, FT, and live bait until something bites.
You never know what lure is working for the day until you try them all.

For Deep water jigging, I wouldn't use a kroc.  They are too expensive, stick with the jigs for that.

stu, you are our favorite parent martyr,  :smt003. those kids get older and it becomes easier. But I'm not feeling sorry for you, we need you out of the water to catch up to your lifetime catch.

poor logic. never compare something to the worst. it doesn't tell you anything of value. your track of comparing dymara to kroc is more fruitful.

But they do look like they would work. are you thinking the slim spoon, or what?

At a minimum purchase of 10 lures, that's a big investment on something that might not fly.  I have noted your stated position of conservatism, so I extended that to fishing lures for you. stick with what you know. don't be getting all liberal when it comes to lures.  :smt002

Also, the jigs are close to as expensive as krocs if you are talking diamond jigs, or in particular the megabait live jig. And I already have the big kroc.

Personally, I think all chrome/silver/blue/white jigs will work just fine.
You have a point, if these lures turn out to be a real piece of crap,
then I am out $$$.  It would be better to only buy 1 and see if I like them,
but since they sell on eBay in lots of 5 or 10, I have no choice.

In a Socialist environment I wouldn't have so many choices,
not only that, all the prices would be $20 a lure because of high taxes.
If Socialist had their way, people working part time at WalMart would
be getting paid $12 hour with full benefits, pension and a house.

In Communist environment I would only have 1 choice.
After all, all jigs are equal.
Just a Ronald Regan said it is an "Evil Empire".

I know all about the price of MegaBaits.  Excellent lure, but very expensive.
So expensive I had to look for other routes to take, because
I just could not justify spending that amount of money on a jig.
I ended up finding a cheaper diamond jig that worked just great.
Now I can save the MegaBait for those special instances.

I'll tell you what.  Jmairey.  If they turn out to be a real
piece of crap, then I'll give you the rest of them.  FREE. :smt001

Look on the positive side.  Your not spending a dime.  In the end I'll
post a report on how well they fair.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

gee thanks! (I think...  :smt005 )

charkbait is great. I love the stories behind all the items.

I'm starting to think that worrying about lure costs is being penny wise but pound foolish since so many other things (rods, reels, boats, fishing instead of working) cost so much, but I've never made a hard-core financial analysis of my fishing habit. But on-line bargain hunting is pretty fun I have to say.

It used to be that fishing from shore, I lost a lure or two every session, but recently, off the kayak, I haven't lost anything. It seems it's easier to free things when you can paddle around. my lure collection is really starting to pile up, I need to get out and lose some stuff!

I also just bought some stuff (junk?) off a guy that moved from so-cal to michigan. A bunch of irons, spoons, jig heads, plugs. it'll take me a while to lose that stuff.

One thing I don't know of is a good place to buy heavy shad heads (say, 4oz) with eyes and good hooks, like the kind alan tani made himself and posted pictures of. charkbait has 8oz and 12oz ones and 2 oz and less, but nothing in the 2-6oz range.
