Family trip to La Jolla next week.  I'd like to at least bring a rod or 2 for some shore fishing - is there anything to fish for this time of year?  Should I bother bringing a yak?  Any advice on gear/locations appreciated.

Andy

Thanks for the encouragement and tips.  I think I will bring the yak.  Even if it doesn't get off the car, it works great as extra storage!  Steve, what kind of rig for the bass?

Lots of info out there on bay bass at plasticnavy.com

Kind of think of them as largemouth bass that don't hit topwater

I just brought a teeny tiny trout rod for the bay bass-- then some little dinky jigs-- like 1/8 to 3/8 oz, white, chartreuse and then brown/orange swimbaits. There'sa  place called "squiddly's" or something like that- that has all the gear.  We go down there a couple times/year (wife's from Bonita).

Tidelands park, right on the other side of hte bridge is where we launch from, then work the area around the sailboats, and up along the drop off towards the hotels.  with the kids we rented a little skiff and took them all bottom bouncing (ended up with a legal hallie for the 4 year old, and a zillion bay bass)

Thanks for the detailed advice.  In the car now and almost there.  Probably hit it either Sunday or Monday.  Report to follow.
