I would like to catch some herring to pickle, but I'm not sure how.

I've read here they're in the bay, but what do you look for when trying to locate them ie, water depth or structure or ...? Will Sabikis, or some other kind of jig, work?

Thanks

Ben

Sailfish: Definitely a good article, thanks!

MonkeyFace: Many thanks for your excellent blog. Reading an earlier edition is what planted the seed. My mom used to pickle river run smelt while I was growing up in WA (but I wasn't paying attention), and I grew up with stories of my grandparents in Denmark doing the same with herring.

To this day, after nearly 25 years together, my wife doesn't appreciate my pickled herring & eggs breakfast  :smt002 . When I told her I wanted to do this her response was, "Why don't you just buy them?" ... I fear she has a point.

I would really like do this from my yak. It's the paddling that makes it worth doing. So a sabiki seems like the only(???) option. I'm just not sure where (literally and figuratively) to start. The Bay is 2 hours away, so I'd like to make the most of it.

Thanks Again

Ben
