Haven't taken a day off work for a while, so decided today would be as good as any with some potential upcoming weather interfering.

Decided to head up to Lake Amador despite the slow fishing reports. figured the bit of rain and colder weather might spark the fish into a bite.

Left home around 5:30. it was COLD!  my car was frosted over.

I got there around 7:30 and noticed there were few people around.  I finally got on the water around 8 and saw this unsavory character floating around:

Just kidding, that is Ron and he is an Amador regular, great fisherman.  He had already caught 6 by the time i met up with him.

The rest of the day was a slow pick, every time i thought i had the fish figured out they changed their mind on me.  I ended up with three kept, 3 lost, and several missed hits.  All three fish I lost were due to broken line, mostly on the strike.  I guess 2lb test is not very good for trolling.  they smack me and then pop!  next time i'll probably stick with 6 all the way.

two fish on a pink/white 3" grub
1 on a power worm.

everyone i talked to seemed to do about the same, except for Ron.  He got all 8 of his on orange F7 rapalas.

all of my fish were nice sized though:
17, 19 and 20 inches.  the biggest was probably around 4lbs. maybe more but I tend to underguesstimate anyways.

fooled around for bass for a bit but couldn't find any willing takers.

here are some additional pics:
First fish 17":

Second fish 19.5":

Man the weather was rough today!

The results:

Big fish of the day!

Right on, Ben - thanks for the report and pics and WTG!  Ron looks like he's ready for anything on his little frigate.   :smt001

I launched at the ramp. Amador is a pay to play lake, and costs around 20 bucks to fish. I got off cheap yesterday because the concessionaire only charged me the float tube fee rather than the normal boat price.

The fishing was slow by amador standards.

I have had great luck with a small black and silver broken back rapala, or even trolling a yellow and red dot/ with silver blade panther martin.  Give them a try next time and you will be successful, I promise, and I don't promise very often.

Rich, I've done pretty well at amador in the past.  I don't think the fish are as picky as people think they are.

they are just stupid, plain and simple.  i snagged another one in the back while trolling..i mean trolling around 1.2mph slow!  how dumb could they be?

i had about 3 or 4 short strikes as well as the lost fish.  even the big one that i got just barely tap tap tapped the grub and i got him on the very tip of his lip.  i think the sun was a bit too bright for them and made them skittish even with 100ft+ setbacks.
