I'm a newbie/lurker/wannabie  -- I've fished a little out of a hobie sport here in LA Harbor.

Over Thanksgiving week I was in Arcata and tried my luck with steelhead fishing from the bank on the Mad River from the estuary up to the hatchery.  I did not have that much luck but completely enjoyed walking the river and trying to catch fish.

I noticed the boat ramp at estuary end and it looked like a great place to launch and maybe fish.

Anyone launch/fish there?  It looks really good to someone who doesn't know any better.
Detonate the reality bomb.

No I haven't kayak fishing that far up North but it looks like very nice river on the map.  There're a few of us live close to the Eureka area maybe they'll chime in.

i live 15 min from the mad. Best fishing is closer towards the hatchery, fish really start stacking there. It can become VERY crowed though. There are some very nice holes in between the estuary and the hatchery. The mad is an excellent river to fish by boat as the accessible bank areas can become full. some of the nicer holes can only be reached by boat. Just waiting on some rain now to bring the fish in.
