Jumbo squid are here in huge numbers

cool gonna go get me some of those if they make it down my way this year. Could use it for lobster bait as well. Market squid is just to expensive...

I would like to make a trip. I am guessing you'd have a lifetime supply of bait.

I am just waiting for some calmer water. Do it its a blast! a few years ago i landed a 5 foot 65 to 75lb squid.
Use a big chrome jig of about 12 to 16 ounces, that works the best. tie a extra 7/0 treble hook below the one of the jig with a stout cord for better holding power. The shiny chrome works much better then the glow in the  dark squid jigs.
If you get into them you will be reeling in squid until your arms fall off.

If you go and need to know how to cook them i would be more then happy to tell you.

My last trip to San Filipe we caught tons of these Humbolt squids.  These squids are strong and great fishters just watch-out when you got it to the surface as the will shoot a jet of water all over you    Thanks for the link Merv.

they are out 20 miles at Bodega Bay. they fight going straight down, not much of a sleigh ride.

This works at BURNINGMAN as well... oh, wait, did you say jig?!

i just watched a show on discovery about those things, they are mean as hell. These guys were divung with thousands of them at night

  I had some last year and they were very salty. Maybe I prepped them wrong.
  Those things are amazing to see and catch.
