This is too the two guys who were fishing in trinidad for rockfish two days ago. Don't know if your on this forum or maybe somebody here knows you. Rockfish season is closed for boat fishing, better brush up on your reg book before you get a fat ticket.

my buddy was like "oh maybe they are from outta town" and i had to tell him that won't work cause rockfish is closed everywhere. Then he's like "oh maybe they are from outta state" and then i had to ask "ok, but what kind of dumb ass fishes a new state or location without studying the regs for that area"

I know a guy who targets striped seaperch, pile perch, and rubberlips from his yak. Get real close to the washrocks and/or shoreline rocks with a 12ft noodle rod and use small pieces of shrimp.

Good point Pat.

Here's my stupid question - If the DFG sees you catching and releasing RF (while fishing for perch) can they still ticket you for it?

The answer is No unless he has reasons to believe you intent to target the RF instead of the perch (i.e.  using 6oz lead head or 12" swim bait  :smt003) or there're RF on board/stringer.

Still open in SoCal.  Did not get a chance to go out of Marina Del Rey last week.  They were reporting nice catches, but was still working on Daughters condo.  Redoing doors and not a straight frame in the unit.

Yeah, if you're actively catching and releasing RF you can be cited. This guy was doing it during RF season though, @ SWS. So I guess it doesn't really apply to the situation redwoodfox is talking about.

I've been pulling loads of crab out of Trinidad when the seas have been calm enough. I was out the other day and saw a couple of guys fishing and shook my head. Closer inspection revealed they were using this new fishable trap sold down at Englunds marine. It attaches to a heavy rod and works like using a ring. Could have been the same guys your referring to, or maybe not. This years crab is looking plentiful if all be it a tad smaller than last season.
