Another reason is with the growing numbers of you have a lot of the "same old thing" getting rehashed. Meaning, not much new exciting content. Which is boring for pioneers looking for a new thrill, the old BTDT syndrome. Some will keep a hobby for life, others change often.

I think this has quite a bit to it....my .02

Thanks for starting this thread Danglin.

I think you have several different questions.

I checked to see what happened to cause two of the members leave. NCKA has become a constituent community in a political fight but has no process for appointing or electing a representative in the fight. I think that alone is enough to cause extreme frustration.

General politics is fine if everybody agrees. Same with religion. Separation of Church and State and Fishing is OK with me.

Nothing is wrong with NCKA. It’s got growing pains, new people, (humans with warts) and it’s all good.

I just got off the phone with Spike,

He has of course has seen just about everything with these forums and such...

Sounds like Fishshim has it correct...  We are experiencing growing pains...

The OG's have answered questions x10, or more, taken the time to explain time and time again or to take people out for free etc etc,,, and I guess per Spike, they just move on when they realize how much time they are putting into this, and it just gets old.

( Still don't see the need for Hostility....  :smt011 )

It's a Cycle,  I felt there was a futility to this post per I already knew the answer.

The Constant is Change,

All we can do is keep doing what we do and stay positive,

politics, rain, shine,  people will come and people will go,

I now believe there is Nothing to change or seek out that is wrong...

It's an incident that has happened and time to move on....

Thanks for Helping me work this one out,

I'll miss those dearly departed members (but still holing out hope they'll return). But I am really worried about the ramifications this fallout will have on Albion and Gimme Shelter. Who will carry on the torch?

Yep. I've also noticed that as kayak fishing gets more popular more people want to be the next great thing in the sport. When it comes to online persona and knowledge all one needs is a creative imagination and Google and they're on their way.

It doesn't help when a newb tells an OG how to fish...  :smt012

Ok Don, you wanna know what's "Wrong" with NCKA.  Here goes.....don't worry I'll be constructive.

NCKA is just an online forum for people to hook up and go fishing.  Because of it's size and reputation we have become a political power when it comes to the MLPA.  What does that mean?  It means that if one of us who claims to be a member goes and shares information or joins alliances with another group/political power, it means that we all agree or support that persons position.  But we don't, because "we" are not a "we".  To be a "we" NCKA would need to be an official organization with elected officers, board of governers and a constitution that we all agree too.  Groups like Ocean Conservancy or Natural Resource Defense Council and MLPA process have treated us as an official group, and quite frankly have taken advantage of our naivety on these issues, myself included.

What does NCKA need to do?
NCKA has to decide what it wants to be at this point, because with our membership size it has gotten to large to go on unorganized when the MLPA and environmental groups are using us as a tool.  So we do one of two things.  We either do not support anyone in association with the MLPA process and go on as a message board for a bunch of very nice and fun random people with a shared love of kayak fishing or we get organized and become an official organization.  And with that will come rules, codes of conduct....a whole bunch of BS that I am sure most of us are not really interested in because we just want to go fishing with new people. (i.e. we lack leadership)  The OG are frustrated because they saw themselves more like a  "board of governors", but lacked the power or will to do anything about people who mis-represent their positions because we don't really have any rules.  Well we kinda do for those who got so out of hand they have to be deleted.

My personal position is that NCKA will need to organize at some point.  There will need to be voted leaders and rules.  But that takes a lot of time and I know people are already spending a lot of time just fishing and posting.  I dunno, I sure would hate to see NCKA die out.  Your all very important to me.  One of my few social outlets these days.  But I'm willing to role up my sleeves if that's what it takes to keep this thing going.

Just my two cents.

Adam.

I think the top 10 AOTY are the board of Governers with the winner as the CEO.
