snuck out yesterday to seek out stripers at Big Break Marina in Oakley.
have to make this one short as  my WAP acct running low.

spent 2.5 hrs trolling rattle trap. surprisingly no hits though this work 6 weeks ago...

finally decided to soak my lone mudsucker...
w/in a couple minutes of sending down the volunteer..my rod is pulsating.

I landed a 19incher..while figuring what to do with this guy...I sent my shaken but still fighting mudsucker down again..
with in minutes..hit again ...this time 21 inches.

it was so good  Iwent back today and strickly stuck to using mudsuckers...The stripers have arrived..although haven't landed anything close to being a lunker..

still the thrill is addictive.
met up with hobiedave there today and we battled thru the winds..
landed around 10 a brought back 2 for filets for the thanksgiving ciopino...

Those Stripers are "suckers" for the "mud suckers", aren't they?  :smt003  Thanks for the report and pictures Dave.

Dave you are a fishing machine. Thanks for the fun day. My one keeper will hit the smoker tomorrow. I am such a 'one trick pony'. Is there is a way to post a picture/message directly from a non internet  connected cell phone? Any Techno out there able to point the way?  Might make me a better team player.

Good to hear the line sides are around. It is that time of year. I'm thinking of trying to get out there in the near future too. Thanks for the report. Enjoy the ciopino....

Congrats on the catch!

What's the best way to catch mudsukers?

Use small hook (size 10 or 12) and a small piece of cooked bay shrimp or worm. They're bottom feeder so use a sinker.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

sonny...re: that question of making your own bait..ie mudsuckers..where do we find them...in the tullies.. shallow areas?

I  got lazy and just bought them from Gotcha Bait shops 3 miles away in Antioch (3500 E. 18th street...just west of hwy 160). I didn't like price of $2 but I can get away with getting only 3 of the fuckers..)

but I like the idea of getting my own..

may try to go  again on monday..that explosive hit is so addictive. I will post up if the wx looks good.
need to practice filet skills. Hobiedave shared with me his CHinese clever secret for removing the skin...

re: "nice healthy stripers".. yeah.. the stomack of one of the guys had a squid in it so I  imagine he was just in the ocean within last few days...

I used to live in Foster City and caught lots of them in the shallow around the lagoon.

I'm even more impressed with these stripers, that's amazing!  either fresh from the ocean, or someone was soaking squid as bait?  But who does that??  And for what, that far up the delta?   :smt104  natures mysteries.
