I wanted to go catch some Dungeness crab but i don't know where to start. Any suggestions on where i should launch from from? Santa Cruz or Capitola? and where should i go from there for the best results? How far off shore will i need to go and how deep? I don't know what there habits are or anything. Thanks for the help.

per a wise old SC vet...for dungies you are better off in HMB. Not really yak friendly distance in SC

Skip Santa Cruz and Capitola. I asked Scallen the same question awhile back and what I learned was that the only decent crabbing in our area is in 200 fow off Steamers. You don't want to be pulling that much rope in your yak! Drive up to Lindamar or HMB.

Keep an eye on your traps in HMB - per Mooch in another post, there's a lot of crab-snatching there.

I second all of that...HMB and stick with your traps.  Good luck.

In the Nov. 10 fishing report from Bayside Marine , Todd said that dungeness  crabs were being caught straight out from Santa Cruz   and also at Natural Bridges. He didn't say at what depth but you could call and ask.

Yes, but that's in over 200 feet of water.
