How about getting a roll call on all the veterans here?

Questions to answer?? (if you feel like answering 'em)

Name / rank?
What military branch did you serve with (or currently serving with)?
How Long did you serve and where?
Any combat stories to share? Or any stories at all (while serving)?

I'm in the airport on my way home from visiting my grandparents in Souix Falls, SD.  Grandpa served as a scout radio operator in WWII and earned a bronze star for alerting the troop behind his that they were under infantry fire and should not advance, all while he was being covered in clods of dirt from shells dropping all around him.  They lost a few men and a half-track truck.  He crawled out into a field away from the fire and was rescued the next day.

Here's a picture of him and Grandma when they were married in 1942, and a picture of us today.  He's turning 90 next month and probably won't make it much longer.  Much love and respect, Grandpa.

If you go to this web site: www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them.

This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's.

Thanks for taking to time to support our military!

Sergeant, USMC, 6 years, never directly participated in combat (thank goodness!), Took part in the UN pullout in Somalia, Operation Southern Watch in Kuwait, humanitarian aid in Rawanda, served with VMA-214 Blacksheep

If you're interested I've got a buddy I was in the Marine Corps with who is still in and was just deployed to Afghanistan last week. He's a Gunnery Sergeant with VMA-231 and has a whole unit full of young guys who could use a care package. You can send care packages to him to distribute among his unit. Just address the care package to "Any Marine, VMA-231" I know they would appreciate it.

-Jay

Here's the address:

VMA-231, Any Marine

Hey Jay,

When I was over in the box, anything marked "any soldier/marine" never would get shipped.  I t normally has to be addressed to a person specifically.  There is a big fear of some one sending some nasty stuff (and I am not talking porn). Now a days a box of anything to the box has to have a customs document.
