I noticed many of these launches charge fees. Do these fees apply to launching kayaks? What if you carry / pull your kayak to the water instead of using the boat ramp?

Most places do charge for launching kayaks. Some will give you a reduced rate. If you can, it's best to contact them ahead of time to find out; and get the name of who you spoke to - sometimes it's a different person working when you get there and the story is completely different.

be a little bit wary of this map...some of the launches aren't exactly what the little hover over leads you to believe.

simple example: The "boat ramp" that is suggested on teh china camp square is actually the bullhead flat launch- it USED to be a gravel boat ramp about 30 years ago...
