Meet up with Sin Coast and some of his friends, Benjamin, Damien, and Brendan today at Zmudowski State Beach for a little Halloween Perching. The serf was looking nice when we got to the end of the trail leading to the beach. We didn’t have to look too far for a fishing hole since there was one right there in front of us. I told Sin Coast I was going to take my first cast right here…I pinned on a MOGF (motor oil gold flake) grub and started casting out. After a few cast I see Damien to my left playing out a perch. A minute later I get one on too. It’s been a long time since I fished for perch and my craving for pan fried barred perch was high on my list. Even though my first perch was only eight inches I kept it in fear I would not catch another. The tide was on its way down and are fishing hole was getting shallower by the minute. I continued to cast three more times to score a barred perch for each cast 2nd fish 10” 3rd fish 10” and 4th and last fish of the day 9” and the hole went dead. I signaled Sin Coast I was going to walk north and see if I could find another hole. I cast and cast but nothing the beach is just too flat and the tide was down. But there was a kid and his father that I just past up that had a pole go bendo on them I was about a hundred yards away but I could see the fish they just dragged in from the surf was not a barred perch  it had to be stripper! So, switch out my grub for a pencil popper and worked my way down to where the boy and his father was fishing I must of covered all the water between me and  them with out any takers. It was a Stripper! caught on frozen anchovie. Sin Coast was getting some action so I will let him and crew chime in.

I had a great day of hanging out with the Sin Coast and his buddies it was nice meeting you guys and we should do it again soon. I took my Sony Mavica  out of storage to take these Pics (Papa Bill loves this camera :smt002) not to clear but what would this report be like without pics.

Perching should be getting better as winter progress.

Sweet pics too!

I was just thinking the same thing as I read this!    I remember my job was lugging his huge (heavy!) wooden tackle box down every pier, jetty and beach.  Looking back I realize that was our version of payin yer dues.. lol!   Good times!    THanks for posting this..  looks like a great time and makes me want to get my sand spikes off the wall, re string my surf rod and head out!

Nice size perch you got there!  Now you got me all perch up to fish Monterey surf again.  Remember to take your kuya next time and show him how to fish for those very masarap na isda.  I see you got your waders on. How deep did you have to go in to cast your bait in the right spots?

I actually stayed on the tide line most of the time but i fell in couple of holes that took me up to my knees. I fish with a 12' 1/2 ft pole with 8# test and a 3/4oz wt. with that combo. It doesn't take to much effort to land the grub in its target. It felt good to walk the beach.

here's the after fish! PAN FRIED BARRED PERCH :cook

Alex, you forgot to suck on the eyeballs and eat the cheeks!  There is enough there for breakfast.
