Got to the lake by 7:45AM. Met Noel and Bassmaster Edsel at the launch and we headed towards the opposite side of the dam. Noel caught the first bass of the day using the drop shot method. Edsel then radios in and gets a big one (4 #'s 19 inches long) with the drop shot as well. I paddle further and find some structure in 4 ft of water and toss my storm swimbait and hook-up my first one. I went on and bump into a friendly float tuber named Ferdie. He was drifting back and forth over some structure in 30 ft of water and was hooking up (also using the drop shot) So, he tipped me off and I did the same and hooked up 4 instantly (14 to 18 inches) - jigging the bottom with my swimbait. When the action slowed down, I spotted a nice area to fish on the other side of the lake and hooked another 18 incher. Edsel and I decided to call it at around 1PM. Weather was perfect and so was the company. Special thanks to Ferdie the float tuber for sharing his spot.

pics to follow!

Nice report. which location did you fish exactly? Could you tell what bait and how deep you drop the line?

I had heard the 'bass bite' was kind of tough there. Not for the 'pros' like you guys it seems. I'll have to give it a try soon since its so close to home. I have to learn the Carolina rig and Drop-shot methods first though. I have a great book on it--just need to try it.

Hey Mooch,

Do you have pix of your scupper pro yet?  How do you like the new ride?  Sounds like you guys had a great time.   :smt006

We fished along the Alma Bridge Road. Use your fish finder and look for bottom irregularities and fish'em patiently. Most bass were caught in 15 to 30 ft. of water using drop shots with a robo worm a foot above the sinker.

I used the storm swimbait all day. (I removed the treble hook at the bottom to prevent snagging and it does less damage to the fish)

here's Noel with the first bass of the day...

here's my first at 4 ft. of water....

here's one of the four I caught at the 30 ft. dept (vertical jigging)

this is Ferdie the float tuber with one of his better catches of the day...

bass master Edsel with a quality fish - 4#'s & 19 inches long....

my last fish of the day....

Edsel with dinner....this guy can give ChuckE a run with his deep frying skillzzz  :smt002

I like the scupper pro because it's light and fast. But IMO, not as comfortable as the Prowler. I'll be using the scupper pro more for the lakes and the bay. (And for taking out my newbie friends).

I've got to go to San Jose today for work -- and that means a drive over 17.

I'll be fishing the West shore (near the overpass) on foot today around 3:00 with some light freshwater gear, mostly worms and perhaps a swimbait.  I'd love company.

Ferdie the float tuber (who is a regular at this lake) told me that this lake has BIG crappie but not a lot of people fish for 'em. I told him about our site - hopefully he will post - then we can pick his brains out. I already gave him an invitation to try out kayak fishing - he's simply has a great attitude and is willing to share all that he knows = we could always use more people like that in our board  :smt023

Crap, I have to can my trip to Lexington this afternoon...   my meeting in San Jose is canceled.

I will, however, be on Seacliff State Beach this afternoon seeking the elusive BSP.  See you there around 2:00 if you're interested.  I'll be West/North of the concrete ship.

Not enough time. Could leave until 1430 and have to be back by 1730. I don't know how good Lex is from the shore, but I'll bet a Carolina-rigged Senko or drop-shot Grub has a chance if you fan cast and walk around a bit. Maybe I'll try just for grins anyway. Not enough time to launch either.
