Okay, another crab gear thread - I just looked at my Promar trap and my Danielson, and neither seems to have escape rings. How do I install them? What are the F&G requirements for them regarding size, etc?
Any tips on this?
Thanks,
Andrew

I take it back. The Danielson has two, but not the Promar.

Only male crab can be kept and must measure 5 3/4 inches across the back at the widest part of the shell. California regulations require 2 escape rings which are 4 1/4 inches.

The males tend to be bigger than the females anyway...
Sean, regarding the tr102s - can I just call Promar directly, or can I buy them anywhere else that you'd recommend?
Thanks.

Try contacting Promar's dealers close to you.  Here is the link to their dealers in CA:

M_T -

Here's another link to the older style 102's. All Crab Stuff (talk about a niche business) may be stocking the newer rank w/ escape rings as well...

allcrabstuff has very expensive shipping.  I found that out before i ordered with karen. $13.93 for one trap, and $103 for 10 traps.

you can buy the TR 102w from karen by emailing her.  she will charge you 27.99 each and possibly take off the NCKA discount. you'd be responsible for the shipping costs.  one of the promar reps i talked to said you could also order them from charkbait but you would probably have to contact them directly.  if you can find enough guys to go in with you, you could do your own group buy, as long as you can cover a case of 10.

the traps are approximately 42 x 28 folded.  a box of 10 was 42" x 28" x 9" and 50lbs.

4" PVC connector female/female is just the right size and super cheap
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Better check the regulation again.  I think it should be 4.25".  Don't want to get caught with the "technicality"  :smt003
