Made the hour drive with the wife and yak up to Baum Lake hoping to slay the trout like I did in early June.
Remember this? :smt003

Well it didn't happen like that, threw little spinners (which usually slays them) for a couple hours for nuthin :smt012

switched to power bait and waited patiently 3 hrs for 2 bites lost and 1 that stuck :smt001

Beautiful day up there once the morning fog burned off, sunny mid 70's and the trees are showing their Fall colors :smt004
The lake was more crowded than I'm used to, it was Saturday after all and I usually go mid week.
The fly fishermen were doing well, I need to find out what flies they use when spinners and bait fail.
As the saying goes, "A bad day fishing/golfing is better than a good day at work"

Hey, at least you made it out.  And you're right about the fall colors up there, I spent Sunday buck hunting around Burney Mountain, beautiful up there.  Sounds like the bucks and trout are conspiring against us though, we had similar results to yours!

Nice report.  I grew up about three miles from Baum Lake and spent a lot of time fishing there when I was a kid.  I used to ride my bike down and fish the powerhouse almost every day in the summer.  I always did really well catching browns in the winter using an almost stupid big Kastmaster on the bend between the powerhouse and the main part of the lake.  There is a lot more moss in the lake now than there was when I was a kid so it is harder to fish that way now.
It is not always the greatest fishing but Crystal Lake, right next to Baum, is a great paddle.  I was out earlier this year and there were thousands of ducks and geese on the lake.   The water is clear and you hardly ever see another person.
