It has only been 2 weeks since the last big meet on the South coast . But another meet had been organized and this time it was in Suffolk on the North sea coast .  .  A few words of explanation , 'the broads' or Norfolk broads , as they are called in full , are an area low lying land in the east of England of interconnecting rivers and shallow lakes .

Its a few days late but here is my post of the east coast meet . Thanks must go to Mark for organizing everything there must be a lot of running around and stuff before hand . All we do is turn up , get drunk and maybe catch a few fish . ;D

First thing Friday morning a few of us met up at Snappers house for a bacon butty , a mug of tea and a pre-meet chin wag . Weather was top of the conversation list and it was decided we would walk down to the sea front and see what it was like , I think we all knew what we would find and sure enough the strong easterly wind was kicking up an unpleasant chop so it was decided we would have a day on the broads .

Curly patting an invisible dog

Snapper also rescued a small tit

We then picked up some bait and headed off onto Oulten Broad . Some fished live baits , some fished lures , some paddled to the pub and had a beer and some food . ::) I elected to fish live baits . I was catching a roach a chuck on the swimfeeder so there was plenty of bait to be had .

After spending the afternoon piking , we drove the 50 metres or so to the Holiday village , that was to be home for the next 2 nights . We were divided up between 3 chalets and after sorting ourselves out headed for the bar and some food .

The following day the wind had , as predicted , eased off and swung round to the West . So with a few nursing hangovers , we headed to Hopton between Lowerstoft and Gt Yarmouth . The tide was fairly fierce and many had problems holding the bottom . Including me , at one point I wiped out Steve [ lureman ] . Cod were being caught as well as whiting and doggies .

All I could manage was whiting . Coming back onto the beach was fun as there was a small swell running from the previous days wind . :o 8-)

Once back at the site Ocean Kayak had brought a couple of yaks round for us to play on . A narlu stand on paddle board and the new torque electric yak .

As it got dark Tratty and Starvin tried to do hand stands on the narlu .......they fell off . It was hard enough standing on it the right way up . ;D

Again the evening was spent at the bar , the food was good and the real ale well kept so no complaints there . Afterwards we watched kayak porn . You had to be there !

The following day we again set off from Hopton . This time I took out a 3 kg anchor , I was dragging nowhere 8-) This time I did much better and managed 6 or 7 cod , two of them keepers .

At the end of the day it was time to head home , some stayed on another night .
It was a great meet and it was terrific to catch up with old friends and make new ones .
The anglers afloat kayak community are a really friendly bunch and for those that missed it this year , I urge you to make the effort to go next year .

Roach, I remember fishing for those in the canals around Timperly back in the 60s' when I lived there for a couple years. We used maggots under a porcupine quill float, long rods and 2lb test line. As I recall, Roach, Bream, and Perch were the fair. Cool to see some of the old country. Thanks for sharing.
